Inspired by Domi Trade I Saw

Description
I've been pretty adamant in my opposition to a Max Domi for Josh Anderson swap for a few reasons:
* I believe Anderson is the better player if he's 100%
* Most trades I see with him involve him signing for cheap and I don't see Columbus parting with him for a draft pick or Domi swap if he's signing for <3 a year
* Anderson is my favorite player lol (I already lost my favorite NFL player, Stefon Diggs off my team this year. I really don't wanna lose my favorite NHL player off my team either)

This one however intrigued me because it created quite a but of cap space and moved expendable players on the team.

From CBJ's side:
* Domi fills the 2C need
* Moving Jenner + Nuti creates 6.5 in cap space at only the cost of a 4th liner and a guy who's stuck as the 6/7 D man on this team
* Getting back a 2nd helps with the lack of one this year from the mistake of a Dzingel trade

From Montreal's side:
*Idk, I got the idea from another guy making a Montreal team. I don't hate it for them, but I don’t think it's super helpful (mainly doing this cause I liked the idea for CBJ)

Based the Domi contract off of some of the ones I've seen on here, let me know if it's off.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
I am NOT putting Dubinsky on LTIR because as I currently understand it, he cannot be placed on it until the season begins. As far as I know after doing some research, unless a player was on LTIR the previous season, they must enter the year on the roster/IR with their cap hit counting against the team until the league clears the team to move them to LTIR. Unfortunately, this means Columbus must buyout Wennberg/Not sign any FAs due to that 5.85 being on the books at season's start. I'm not 100% on this rule, but that's how I understand it right now, so I'm accounting for it.

As far as lines, they aren't super thought through, just a reasonable estimate of what I expect with a small mix of what I'd like to see. Bemstrom/Robinson is the only real difficult lineup decision I see (assuming Grigorenko does come over to play)

That would definitely work. He'd either be a 4th liner / scratch or only cost 400k buried. Contract wouldn't give Columbus any issues entering the season and DEFINITELY wouldn't after Dubi is put on LTIR. No issue for Columbus to take the contract if Montreal doesn't want it.

Absolutely. He's really just nothing offensively and isn't worth it at 3.75, at least for us.

I like the “bones” of the deal, being Anderson for Domi, but I don’t like the gravy on it. The habs already have a lot of 3rd line kinda players and 3rd pairing d-men. We really don’t need Jenner or Nutivaara.

Yeah, I honestly am not too familiar with what Domi's projected at. I just tried to base it off some of what I've seen on here, though admittedly 80% of teams on here have guys getting signed for too little.

I mean, I have absolutely no idea, other than when he goes to arb, he's probably going to point to the 28 goal, 72 point season that he had, and start picking comparable's, most of who make a bunch more than that.

I gotcha. Admittedly, I just took the idea from a team a Habs fan posted and kinda ran with it. The Habs are one of the teams I'm less familiar with, but I know Nuti would likely have the same issue of being buried there as he does in Columbus. I'd like to see him moved to a team like Vancouver or Winnipeg if he's traded. Also, the OP of the trade had Montreal flipping Jenner right away to Winnipeg in a big deal for Laine and Ehlers or something (lol).

But yeah, I agree with you, not a deal I'd make of I were Montreal, I just liked the idea of it for my team and wanted to explore it more.

Habs don’t it imo. They don’t have to trade him, and if they do, it’s for a player his caliber. Anderson isn’t on Domi’s level. The other pieces aren’t of much interest to MTL.

These players that Montreal would be getting in this scenario are ones that are very versatile. Jenner can play center but is much better on the wing, and Nutivaara can play the left side or the right side.

I get the other pieces and agree there, but Anderson is absolutely on Domi's level.

Around 6m for 5 years would be his contract.

I'm not sure about the value due to Anderson's injury. There's a part of risk that Im not sure Bergevin would assume since Anderson is the main piece. The 2nd could be a 3rd and Weal could be added for contracts sake like CLR said.

I was confused for a minute because there's no way the cap would work...the worst part is that I read the whole description, including the Dubinsky to LTIR part, but somehow it still didn't click tears of joy Definitely have not had enough coffee yet...

Anderson’s career year, playing with Panarin, was 47 points. Domi’s a consistent 50 point player (in terms of PPG) who got 70 points last year. They’re not on the same level. Domi is more talented as well and is an amazing playmaker. Anderson is a good 3rd liner who can get fill in a top 6 on a not-so-deep top 6.

you haven't done your research on Anderson. Thr majority of his time playing with Panarin in 2017-18 was during the month of January when Atkinson was hurt which was actually Anderson's worst month. Thr majority of his time came with some combo of Foligno, Jenner, Dubinsky, and Calvert.

My bad. When I saw some Columbus games, he played with Panarin. I just assumed that they played together the whole year. Anyway, I think my point still stands. Anderson is nowhere near as proven as Domi. Even then, from the eye test alone, I think it is easy to claim that Domi is more talented as well. He is one of the best playmakers on the team. I like Anderson, but I’d trade a late second at most for him.

Ha, glad you thought my trade proposal was interesting. Think Domi would want at least 1 M more than what you have. He would prolly sign for 6 for a 4-6 yr deal, or a bridge contract for 5.5 or so.
