I love the sarcasm in the Chicago trade 😂. I was just talking to a buddy the other day that the pens should look at Kreider. I was talking Kreider for Hornqvist straight up. Since the rangers already have 2 top 6 LW, this will give them a righty on the right side. Plus Hornqvists contract ends in 3 years when Lafreniere and I believe Zibenijad will be up for contracts. So they’d have 6.5 million in room.

Just want to clarify. The reason I wouldn’t give up a ton like in this trade is because Kreiders contract is going to be horrible in a few years. Plus he has similar production to what Hornqvist is putting up now even at his age.

I think they're gonna have trouble moving Hornqvist since he's coming into his mid 30s, has already had a lot of injuries and the way he plays he's definitely gonna get more, and I don't think anyone's gonna be fooled by his increased production this year. He's 5 foot 11 and less than 200 pounds and is routinely getting hammered by 6 foot 3 defenseman and if he's not at the front of the net there's not much else he can do. Guys who rely on physical play usually decline heavily in their mid 30s and I think he's well overdue. We'd probably be able to get a 3rd for him but definitely not Kreider. And I LOVE Hornqvist. The guy is a ****ing viking warrior and is the soul of this team but his contract is gonna be awful in two years and I think we should move him now before its too late. It'll be a sad day but it'd be for the best

I mean he only had the one bad year last year. This year he was back to his normal self. He’s usually in that 40-55 point range and he was on pace for that again this year and that’s with being pushed to a bottom 6 role. I know we wouldn’t get Kreider for him, I was just saying it would make sense for both teams. Pens get a bit younger and faster but take on a longer contract that is going to be rough in like 5 years. Rangers will get out of that deal in time now for when their big players are gonna need big contracts. And Hornqvist contract being bad in 2 years will be of no consequence really cause he’d only have a year left on it anyway. I think he’d probably get traded out west (maybe a Nashville reunion) if he gets traded at all.

I don't know maybe I'm overly pessimistic about how much he's gonna decline. I'd definitely rather see him succeed and us keep him than have to trade him but if he isn't playing with Sid or Geno and for whatever reason Sullivan doesn't want him on the power play his production is gonna go down. And considering how bad our 3rd line was against Montreal I'm not thinking he's gonna have a good year next year
