This is a really big comparison, but he is the closest thing the Flames will ever have to replicating Iginla. That doesn't grow on trees, so I really value him and would be giving him the C sooner than later

Its a tough trade to make from both sides. Neither side would do it. Calgary builds around those two guys for sure. But it improves both teams if you try to be objective about it.

Easy to see the W for Toronto. I also wanted to trade for Erik Cernak but the cap made it too hard.

For Calgary you get the best player in the trade by far and fill out depth at every other position. But I can see why there would be a quick no as well.
Got to give to get. I think the Freddy sweetner is a key aspect here, he could be stellar away from the Toronto pressure cooker.

Then it's not remotely close to worthwhile for TO. Tkachuk is the guy on your team that has value. Guadreau and Sean are not at all interesting to TO.

Everything you say here is true. Marner could win an Art Ross and is the far better player in this trade. In these fantasy scenarios you have to give to get or you're just building an all star team.

I agree. And that is exactly why they have not been able to move Jonny out of Calgary and will be unimpressed with the return for him if they pull the trigger.

He'll leave as an FA and someone else will be disappointed in him lol
