Description
I'm not a Sabres fan just looking at what I think could work.

Adds some depth scoring out of Nylander and Kappanen while shipping out Ristolainen who I think could use a change of scenery after enduring a lot of hard times similar to O'Reilly. He is exactly what the Leafs could use on the back end and would therfore benifit both teams.

The Montour trade doesn't really need to happen just opens up space on the back end. No need to have him or Joki playing on the third pair. since Joki is younger I decided to keep him and move Montour for assets.

Signing Holtby would be mostly because it seems as though the Caps will be letting him go this offseason since they would probably lose him to Seatle and they could move on to Samsonov.

Adding Edmunson, Polak, Boyle and Martin go along with adding good gritty depth players along with attempting to establish a culture in Buffalo of hard working guys. Martin and Polak seemed to have a good effect on the young guys in Toronto and could have a good effect on the guys in Buffalo as well

Lastly, just to free up some cap space, Okoposo was traded to anyone who would be willing giving up on Buffalo's first.

Toronto hangs up the phone. Ristolinen is not good defensively. That deal is so heavily favoured for buffalo it hurts pass

1Yeah Leafs fans won’t like that trade lol.
2Hutton and Holtby where really bad this year, Ullmark was solid with the .915 save percentage.
3 Okposo is still a good 4th liner it’s not a problem yet with his cap hit. Plus I don’t think he would waive.
4 Cozens will probably be the 3c not Mittlestadt.
5 I wish they would put Sam back to center, but it’s unlikely. It would solve some major problems.

Ristolainen's perceived poor defensively play is heavily due to playing on Buffalo. For 4 straight season from age 20-24 he averaged over 25 minutes a night on bad Buffalo teams which is the biggest reason why people say his defensive play is bad. Watching Buffalo play, you notice that he is strong in the corners and bellow the goal line, and his issues lie with most times gets caught trying/having to do to much to defend.

Toronto gets exploited badly bellow he goal line and winning puck battles which is something Ristolainen is very good at because of his size and skating ability. But Toronto also gets cap space from this deal which is probably just as big of a factor for them because if they can't free up cap to resign Reilly and Anderson they are screwed anyways.

Leafs fans don't like anything that isn't heavily in their favor lol.
Buffalo only has 4 forwards on contract through this season which is why Okoposo's contract will become restrictive. I don't think players on bad contracts are as dificult to move as people say similar to Backes in Boston they won't stay places they aren't wanted.

Yeah, he definitely sucks defensively because he tries too much lol 😂 c'mon man. Risto always allows ****load of chances against because of his poor positioning and the fact that it seems like his brain freezes anytime there is puck going against him on blueline. Rielly is same.. but Rielly is much much better playdriver than Risto so it is not as apparent.

Leafs would want a top pairing two way D for Nylander, not 6'4 version of Tyson Barrie.

Well im glad to see you've played a lot of hockey in your lifetime lol. In case you hadn't realized 80% of the time trying to do to much in the defensive zone is what gets defenseman caught out of position and that is typically what happens when ever defenseman have no help in their own end. AKA Ristolainen.

Eitherway , think what you like about Ristolainen heis probably the best Toronto would possibly get for Nylander. There is little to no chance they will get anything more with the cap situation they're in they will have to over pay for any player from a contending team.

There are players who get caught up in defensive zone trying too hard. Risto is not one of those players.

They can get someone who actually can defend and is a top pairing guy. I would like a guy like Risto on Leafs. If I had a guy like Brodin on his left to cover for him.

Risto and Reilly would be an exceptional defense pairing. Risto's only problem throughout his career has been his positioning that is due to the people he's been playing with. This past season he did not skate with Eichel's line they gave Dahlin the starts with Eichels line, prior to that he had been playing with Marco Scandella as their top pair with little to no defensive help from their forwards. The team overall was a mess leading to Risto's poor defensive positioning from having to try and do to much, very similar to O'Reilly before leaving Buffalo.

Risto would give Reilly a big top pair guy they've been looking for that is exceptional bellow the goal line line and winning puck battles which Reilly is very poor at. They would complement each other very well defensively while simultaneously be capable of pushing the play from the back end.

Ristolainen leaving Buffalo would be extremely simlar to O'Reilly where he'd have the opportunity for a fresh start and would really flourish with the opportunity

Neither Risto or Rielly can defend to save their lives. Id take Risto on Leafs if he played with pure defensive Dman who would cover for him. Other than that there is a big big risk of him being just as bad defensively as he was in Buffalo. And I dont think Leafs would take that risk with Nylander going the other way. Maybe Kapanen if they would be able to get a pair for Rielly as well and play Muzzin with Ristolainen.

ROR was already amazing before leaving Buffalo. He wasnt bad. Risto was.

ROR was getting eaten up defensively trying to do to much the same as Ristolainen both were roughly -20 their seasons there together.

No way. Not 3 years. I’d rather take the Turris contract.

We would have the 7 & 8 pick. That would be huge. Also we have enough cap space to take that contract on.
