Well the Pens didn't win the Laffy Draft, so the only chance they have for finding a new young franchise star is by trading Malkin.

But thats not the route they are going. Its very rare to have players like Crosby and Malkin on the same team for over a decade, so they are trying to maximize this chance and win as many cups as possible. They are going the path DET has done. Win for a long time and then be a basement team
