I think the trade is reasonably close. The actual additional players or picks could be slightly different, but I'd say you're on the right track.

Isles should keep their defense together. Pulock has looked great this postseason and he was pretty damn good in the regular season too. And his chemistry with Pelech has quietly made them one of the NHL's best pairings.

If we need to get Barzal a winger, I'd be more willing to part with an offensive prospect like Wahlstrom or Bellows. We can shed cap through LTIR and accepting underpayment for Leddy.

I agree with every sentence of this. I think keeping Pulock-Pelech together for the next 5-7 years will be instrumental to this teams' success.

Exactly. We have an opportunity to sign Pulock to a long term team friendly deal this offseason. 6x8 contract would set this team up with a (relative to other top pairing defensemen) cheap top pairing guy for the next decade. Pelech is due for a contract next season, and I'd bet we could sign him to a similarly cheap deal, especially since his contributions are almost purely defensive. He doesn't score like Pulock. And if you want Cups, you need guys on bargain contracts (Think Duncan Keith for the Blackhawks). For the next few years, we could have a Top 4 of Pulock-Pelech and Toews-Dobson. All of those guys have great potential and will either be on team friendly long term deals or bridge contracts to keep the team together in the short term.

Not giving up all that for Ehlers. Especially when we have more than a few prospects to either groom into that or trade for him.
