Second time swinging at this Armchair GM thing (partially brought on by pure sadness), and I think I've made a pretty fair roster with reasonable trades. I would acquire Josh Manson and a 4th for Kasperi Kapanen, and Travis Dermott (hoping Toronto is not on the 12 team trade list). It feels like an overpayment, but the present market demands it. I then acquired 2 2nd round picks from Los Angeles, using the JGP trade as a benchmark (JGP for 1, 2, 3), I thought this would be reasonable. Additionally, Los Angeles has a surplus of draft picks, and acquiring a skilled middle 6 forward is something that would benefit them greatly. Johnsson was on a good point pace and performed admirably despite his injury so I felt him + a sweetener would be worth 2 + 2. The Bracco trade was more a second chance for him, and a lottery ticket for a cheap playmaker. I felt 2 LottoMax tickets was a decent enough return. This set up gives the necessary flexibility for Toronto, addresses the RHD weakness, and gets fair turnover for surpluses.
As for roster moves, Mikko Lehtonen will likely be an immediate impact, top 4 dman. Placing him alongside a similarly minded, Swedish 2-way defenseman seems like the best choice. Rielly-Manson is an ideal pair, as it gives Rielly a defensive bulwark allowing him to fully utilize his top 10 OFD skill fully. Muzzin-Holl has been an effective shutdown pair, and I would like to continue utilizing it in the future.
LA isn't trading two 2nds for Johnsson especially their own 2nd which will be a very early 2nd, in a flat cap and few teams with cap space you're proably getting at best a 3rd round pick for Johnsson.
I don’t think the Ducks are interested in trading Manson anymore unless it’s an overpay or for another RHD. It’s not a trade tho.
Dermott plays both sides, and I felt like this was an overpay. Game-breaking speed, 20 goal scorer, 40+ points, PK capability, in Kapanen, and a young, versatile 2-way Defenseman. I think to say this isn't a fair trade massively undervalues Kapanen, and Dermott's abilities.

I used the Pageau trade as a benchmark. They also have 7M of cap space, with an additional 2M coming off the books in the offseason so Cap isn't much of a concern for them.

Our definition of “overpay” is different. But still I don’t think Manson will he moved

Cap space isn't an issue for LA, but cap space is an asset. The Kings aren't taking on $3.4M in cap without some consideration for it.
If they were interested in Johnsson (they're not), a 2nd round pick would probably be fair compensation, assuming a net-zero cap situation. That would mean that Toronto would need to take back equal salary (e.g. Jeff Carter with $1.8M retention). However, that defeats the purpose of this trade for Toronto.
It's all moot because rebuilding teams don't give up high-round picks. The Kings pick is the 35th overall. They're not trading that for a bottom-six forward.

Dubas dealing from a position of weakness not strength. He has no cap space and 4 yrs of team failure. He can dump his mid range guys to clear space but will only get 3rd and 4th rounders back. No one is looking to do him any favors.

I think to say that you're overpaying massively undervalues the fact that the league doesn't revolve around just one team. The need for shutdown RD's among potential contenders isn't just a Leafs problem. If the Ducks were to sell off Manson, they could get picks, prospects or players that actually fill areas of need, instead of jumping at a winger and a LD that can play right, he just doesn't do it good enough for the Leafs to keep him.
