Description
Seattle Protection List:

F: Tatar, Danault, Gallagher, Kotkaniemi, Drouin, Armia, Lehkonen, Evans
D: Weber, Dumba, Chiarot
G: Price

Seattle picks one of Mete, Juulsen, or Fleury.
Depending on how good the habs are Petry might be traded at the deadline. Either way, the habs wait until free agency, and sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal at around $6-7 million AAV if possible. If not, they could go for another UFA on a 1 year deal, or use their cap space in other ways.

You protected 8 fowards. It should be 7.Evans is exposed without consequense.

Caufield wont be ready 🤣 And surely not on the second line, come on 😉

I would go Chariot-Dumba and Romanov-Weber. The first line can take more minutes at 5-5 and save some energy to Weber for 5 on 4. Also Romanov get a dependable mentor.

Also, I don’t understand how you cant see it doesnt make any sense to pay 6Mil + for a guy playing 3rd pairing minutes. (you made a lot of undervalued contracts to make that happen lol)

Take the money and A) sign UFA Smith, or B) make a capdump deal with Vancouver to get Beagle/Virtanen C) make capdump deal with Edmonton for Russel/Poolparty or Chiasson. Then you get your realistic middle 6 RW instead of Caufield. When Armia go UFA one year later, try the kid.

Edit: I forgot you cant put Primeau, you need to offer Seattle a qualified goalie. Sign Brossoit or Domingue for 2 years.

So, I like the trade. But now I don't like having Petry. I'd move him. I'm not sure what for, maybe a B-level prospect on LD or something.
I don't think a 4yr contract would be long enough for Gallagher. I think he'd want a contract into his 35-36 yr range and he'd probably want 7 mil/yr.
I personally hope we don't sign him that long but players don't like to end up 35 without a contract. The CBA makes a multiyear contract at 35 years old very hard to get.

Now, Danault (ugh) is a problem. He doesn't put up big points. 50 pts/season is 2C at the very most. I'd max him out at 5Mil a year.

Lol, I think I was just thinking about how Evans would be exposed, and then just wrote him down without thinking. As for the depth & goalie to expose, I didn’t think too much about that, and mostly focused on the big contracts & expansion.

I’m confident Caufield will be able to play in the NHL, he’ll be almost 21 years old after all. He’s not going to get any bigger, so I don’t know what we would be waiting for.

While I do think the Petry contract is a reach, I believe that the rest of them are fairly realistic, especially considering the flat cap.

Also, which Smith are you talking about? Brendan?

How much would it cost to move up from 12th to 9th anyway? My best estimate is about an early 2nd and possibly a late 3rd. Ott paid NJ a 3rd rounder to move up from 12th to 11th for example. I think a 2nd and a 3rd is probably conservative.

If that's the case, to swap Domi for Dumba its costing the Habs 2 2nds and a 3rd (approx). I'm not sure that's good value to be honest. I'd rather not move down in this draft. we're right on the cusp of whether we land a stud or a solid prospect. At 12, I feel we fall right out of that top list of players that will all be guaranteed studs.

Also if Dumba is being added, im fine going after him but that means without a doubt you got to trade Petry. Having 3 top 3 RHD is'nt ideal unless your a cup contender and the Habs aren't that. Need to continue to add those picks and prospects and move out the older guys with trade value.
