Why?
- I've seen many variants of the Georgiev trade here. A 2nd + a solid prospect for Georgiev + a later pick seems to make sense on paper. Groulx is pretty promising, and NYR lacks good center prospects; all they have is Karl Henriksson.
- NYR can't afford Strome (especially this year), and they'd be very lucky to get a guaranteed 1st for him. Here, Granlund gets a Wayne Simmonds-esque "show me" deal; he would be paid less than Strome and will either get flipped at the deadline or re-sign the following season for a comparable price. Maybe Granlund gets comparable $$ to Strome in 2021-22, but he's an objectively better player; he just was not a good fit in NSH.
- Borgstrom for Andersson is basically disgruntled prospect for disgruntled prospect. Borgstrom's attitude doesn't suck, and he would, at the very least, play in the NYR system. Andersson is not gonna play for NYR ever again; FLA seems like a good fit because they fixed Aleksi Saarela's attitude problem, so they could do it again here.
- If NYR gets value for Smith, it's a win. End of story.
Not sure if this is deserving of a response but i'll try and give you one.
1. That framework might "make sense" here. It doesn't in reality. Rangers have already turned down Kapanen ++. So you're looking at something closer Cory Schneider (mid 1st) or Freddy Andersen (late 1st + 2nd) compensation here for Georgiev if the Rangers are going to actually pull the trigger. And why shouldn't they? He's the best U25 goalie in the league by a country mile. We have the numbers:
The Rangers aren't dumb, they know this. Places like here just haven't caught up. So in terms of what what they'd actually accept. That's your answer.
2. Strome put up a 70 point pace in his 1st year getting consistent top 6 mins, there's no reason to expect any less than a 1st for him.
3. Seems like you're a psychologist here lol. And considering the the strong rumors of Borgstrom going to the KHL because he's disgruntled with the Springfield staff, an uninformed one. Lias for Borgstrom 1 for 1 may work. But as it's structured, it's pretty laughable. Please educate yourself on the Lias situation before commenting from afar, it doesn't make you look good.
4. Don't think I'd call this value at all. Smith is a good player and frankly one of the better zone entry dmen in the entire league. I think you might be confused with Marc Staal. This trade structure might actually work for him. But he also has an NMC to consider.
