Byron tops out as a 3rd or 4th line LW. We have 4 top-6 LW already. You'll have to offer something far more appealing than "depth" that we don't need.

Byron plays RW too, but MTL won’t trade him and Philly needs to trade Gost for cap space

Mtl can get Azkarov on the next draft if they need it too... and we do have Pricy for the next 7-8 years!

Philly will deal Ghost because they can’t protect him in the ED. Provorov, Sanheim and Myers will be the three.

Our wing depth is good so Byron isn’t of interest at all.

Phily are OK cap wise... with Braun of the book next season they only need to resign a second G with +/- 4M available

No we don't. We have to make some decisions regarding the cap, but it doesn't have to be Ghost and if it is Ghost, we don't need to absorb 3.4 million for multiple seasons on a guy that doesn't fit a need.

Look, I get that Byron is quality character guy, but he has struggled the last two season staying in the lineup and tops out at our #9 forward. This deal fails to fit a need (RHD/ backupgoalie) and fails to deliver cap space (1.1 million - less than we'd save by trading a guy like Raffl or playing a kid instead of Braun).

There is no reason to take on 4 million in cap with Byron + retention when he'll probably be on our fourth line. Taking on expensive bottom six guys will put them in cap trouble, especially with the cap being flat. If they move Ghost this off-season, it will be for picks/prospects. The upside is there with Ghost, not with Byron.
