IMO Dallas would want to get rid of Benn while he’s still worth something. With the new cap space, they can then chase Hall or another free agent forward.
Ottawa is in a position to ditch one of their lottery picks to get more seconds and get Benn, who will be a great teacher for Byfield or Stützle.
Detroit is a hardcore rebuilder, and it would be great for them if they got Rossi, Perfetti, or Raymond AND Drysdale. After drafting those two, they can afford to lose some second rounders.

True, but he would look good on a line with Tkachuk...for a short while anyway. Ottawa is giving up waaaay too much too. Detroit would love this because they get the 5th overall pick for 2 seconds.

Not gonna work, but as a Leaf fan, I say Ottawa should go for it. smile

Have you seen these other trades that have Boeser going for Dumba and some good picks? Benn is coming off a slump year, but he is still a guy who can put up at least 60 points. Sens could use a vet to mentor their younger guys

sure he can still put up a little points but no team in their right mind would trade a first to get him nevertheless the number 5 overall pick

You do realize that the Sens are also getting two of Detroit’s second rounders, one of which(Detroit’s original one) is basically a first rounder. If the Sens want a quality vet forward to help mentor their youngsters, getting Benn plus some picks for some picks(when you already have oodles of them) would be one of the better options

a player you can get number five is gonna be way better than a player you get at 33. They could do this trade if you swap out ottwa's pick with new york's pick

No way Ottawa does this. 9.5m for another 5 years on fading player...and they pay picks and prospect for him? Dumpers have to pay big to get out of cap hell, not receivers.

Picks and prospects for a older guy who can help the young guys develop and can still put up some points seems like a fair deal to me

This is laughably bad for Ottawa. Jamie Benn is firmly in decline, and turns 31 in just a few days. In what world does it makes sense for Ottawa to throw away a handful of assets including a top 5 pick, for the privilege of paying Jamie Benn 9.5mil a year for the next half decade.

Also the Detroit aspect is unbelievably stupid as well. Why would they get the 5th overall pick for a couple of 2nds. If that was fair value, Sens would be trading up and drafting 2nd+3rd+4th+5th.

9.5m for 5 years! That’s not mentor money. Why would Ottawa send all their cap advantage over the league away AND picks and Brown for a mentor? 9.5 could lock up Brady and have some left to contribute to a mentor.

This makes absolutely no sense for the Sens. Also this isn’t a three-way trade, it’s just two normal trades.

You guys all on the same drugs? Oh wait its the same guy everytime tears of joy Ottawa gives up two second round picks and gets two back, the detroit 'basically' being a first is a mute point because the second Ottawa gives up is one pick after them tears of joy
Essentially Ottawa is swapping two second round picks around and giving up 5OA for an over paid guy who will fade out of the league in a few years. I dont think I would give up Ottawas second round pick alone for this guy

When you say “he will fade out in a few years”, you realize the guy is 30 years old?

So great even if he doesnt 'fade' we can get 40 points a year out of him for 9.5 million. No one is agreeing with you in this whole thread for a reason

Benn was considered one of the best players in the league a few years ago. A down season or two and this is what people think? This is insanity

Dude this guy had a great prime from 2013 to 2016 at over a point per game but beisdes those three years has never been a point per game player. only a point per game player would be worth the 5OA pick abd only to a team trying to win now, not Ottawa trying ot rebuild. You can rely on him for 50-60 points for the next couple years of his deal but in four years he'll be a bad contract to have

Well pretty much everybody who signs a huge contract their UFA year is considered a bad contract at the end of their contract, when they’re like 36. The sens get one who can still get you “50-60 points for the next couple years”.

Bro thats good if you are trying to win now, ottawa would rather draft a kid who can put up 70-100 points for the next 15 years. I don't think you understand everyone is trying to say that he isn't uselsss but not worth his contract and not wroth the 5OA pick

The 5OA pick is almost solely in exchange for the two seconds. Benn is for Brown and the two seconds. It’s basically two deals mashed into one. Neither deal seems like a reach to me.

dude if you think two second round picks is worth 5OA you are on cracktears of joy tears of joy
Even if they were the first two picks of the second round it isn't worth it. Christ I wouldn't take the first 10 picks of the second for 5OA. It takes a top 10 pick plus another first rounder to move up to 5OA.
The Benn for Brown and two seconds isn't terrible but still a loss in value for Ottawa. Brown will gain value every year while Benn wil lose as he gets older on that contract. Only a team with cap space trying to win now would trade a B level prospect and two seconds for Benn. Maybe a team like COL if Dal retained some salary
