Compher would be great for Seattle but wouldn't you think Jost would be picked up?

If the avs don’t pick up a another top 6 forward their fwd protect list is

Mack Landy rants bura kadri and 2 of donskoi jost compher maybe even nichushkin if repeats his season. They could protect jost bc he’s younger and cost controlled

Avs will lose a graves donskoi or compher level player no matter what so I don’t see them complicating it

It will be a choice of protecting 2 out of Donskoi/Compher/Jost/Nichuskin.

Jost is going to be cheaper (as little as half the caphit Compher has) and should provide a similar level of production at that stage. Compher also hits UFA in 2023 whereas Jost will be an RFA until 2024.

I could see the decision being made to expose Donskoi instead of Compher, but either way I think one of those two will get selected.

I don't foresee Sakic exposing Graves, as we'll simply ask Johnson to waive and then take measures to ensure that Seattle don't pick him (which they won't want to anyways).

We may have to pay Seattle not to pick Francouz though, that's my bigger concern, but with 1 year to UFA in 2022 it shouldn't cost too much. There's also Annunen and Werner in the pipeline so we should be able to absorb losing Francouz if it comes to that.

What do you think of Kamenev for a 4th from NYR btw? I figured that Rangers fans seemed positive about acquiring Kamenev for Rykov, so trading a 4th would be acceptable as well.

I think this is gonna be the Avs best team in this window. They'll have MacKinnon/Kadri/Newhook/Bowers potentially down the middle (probably let Kadri go after that if Newhook looks like he's ready to be a 2C) and it'll be the last year before they have to sign Kaut/Byram/Bowers and two years until they'll have to sign MacKinnon and potentially Newhook if they play him in the playoffs next year.

Kaut and Byram's ELC's will slide so they will only be up in 2023. But yeah, the year with both Kadri and Newhook should be a good opportunity for sure.
