I'd rather take back an NHL player than such a low pick. Wilde and the 1st don't completely diminish the value all the way down to a 6th round pick.

Since the cap will most likely not rise in the next 3 years, it would be a bad idea to take on Boychuk's contract imo. We could ask for more if we did, but I would rather keep our money for our own players.

Well most of our players are core pieces moving forward. The only ones that could work are either Weal, Kulak or Byron

Yeah, one of those is exactly who I mean (preferably Weal). If you change the 6th to Weal I think the Isles would be more interested.

I don't think Boychuk will waive to go to MTL though. I think he'd like to either go to Western Canada or a contender.

Montreal does have a pretty good western Canadian clique (Price, Weber, Gallagher, Kulak and Domi) so he could be tempted.

The trade itself is interesting, I guess most of the trade is on Wilde and how Marc/Trevor see him. If they like him I guess there could be something to work with as our RD pipeline is a weak point (Fleury, Juulsen and Brook that's it) and with two RD aging I'd say there's clearly something there. If Weal's going the other way Montreal would have enough cap space to bring a young RD in and Boychuk would become our 7th dman, anyways with the Canadiens' luck we'll have 2 or 3 injuries before playing the 12th game.

On the first part, that may be true, but he's from EDM so he may want to physically be closer to his family for the last couple years of his career.

The other part I agree, the Canadiens can take on the Boychuk salary for a prospect they need organizationally and a 1st round pick. Isles get a cheap RW on an expiring contract.

Hell no. We can’t afford that $6 million next year.

If we get Lafreniere, we are probably not re-signing Tatar, so there's definitely a way to make it work

I guess so. I just don’t like the idea of trading Tatar, but I also don’t like the idea of letting him walk for nothing. But I’d rather trade Domi & re-sign Tatar if Domi can’t play the wing.

Moving Tatar hurts & will affect the team badly if we plan on contending next year so there's a big chance that he walks. I want to keep Domi since he can play center and wing. Drouin, to me, should be traded before Domi

Fair, although at this point there’s no use in trading Drouin, since he won’t have enough value to be worth moving.
