My opinion is he will be bettere than nuge and nuge is gonna want a lot of money soon but Jack is still on his rookie contract and i assume he will eventually need a big contract. I still do strongley think this would benefit edmonton more
If it was 1-for-1 you could make the argument that this would be better for the Oilers in the long run even as it makes the team worse short-term. I get that. But then you added Bouchard, Puljujarvi and FIVE (count 'em) high picks. That's ridiculous.
In any case, while its certainly possible Hughes ends up better than Nuge is right now, it's by no means a given. Do you realize that Draisaitl is the best offensive player in the league right now, and when Nuge plays on his wing it makes Draisaitl even better? They played together from December 31st to March 9th this season. Here was the leaderboard during that time:
1. Draisaitl: 29, 21-28-49 +13 (1.69 P/GP)
2. Kucherov: 31, 20-24-44 +20 (1.42)
3. Panarin: 29, 11-31-42 +16 (1.45)
4. Zibanejad: 30, 24-18-42 +1 (1.40)
5. Nugent-Hopkins: 29, 15-26-41 +12 (1.41)

477. Hughes: 25, 1-4-5 -16 (0.20)
Don't be so quick to trade the 5th highest scorer in the league.
This trend of RNH's at being great next to Draisaitl isn't new, it's been going on for 3 years now just in very small samples. His 5v5 production for the last 3 years when playing with Draisaitl, 3.21 P/60, is simply unmatched in the NHL. Kucherov is the closest at 3.10 P/60, with McDavid (2.95), Marchand (2.83), Stamkos (2.80) and Panarin (2.75) rounding out the top 5.
It's interesting that Nugent-Hopkins has made Draisaitl better too, which is incredible when you consider most of the rest of the time Draisaitl played with McDavid.
Draisaitl's 5v5 P/60 with McDavid: 3.07 (1857:31 TOI in 3 seasons: 2017-20)
Draisaitl's 5v5 P/60 with Nugent-Hopkins: 3.68 (635:07 in 3 seasons: 2017-20)
