Kapanen likely gone for cap reason. Should get at least a 1st back if not better than. Return likely to be futures unless a decent RD from somewhere.

Whether you like it or not, he IS a top 6 winger. And go actually look at some trades in the last few years. Bottom 6 guys get 3rds or better. The injury issue does matter, but if he comes back and plays in the playoffs it will boost his value immensely.

Injuries do effect player value and everyone knows that. He suffered a major knee injury! How the heck do you think that doesn’t lower value? No one is going to trade a 1st for a guy who is 25, is a fringe top 6 winger (at best), isn’t some kind of corsi god, and suffered a major knee injury in a good draft. I’d pay the 1st for Kapanen, as I believe he is actually a player who has good capabilities of playing in the top 6 well, however Johnsson? Not a chance.

Bye snowflake.

You're argument that they can just ignore the cap without trading anyone is insane. Thinking what's essentially similar to the current team but that won't get sub 900 goaltending will be worse? Also crazy.

Did I say ignore the cap? No. Did I say the goaltending was good enough? No. Did I say that the team should not make a move as it relates to the cap? No.

Here is what I did say because you clearly didn't read it or didn't understand it....

No chance that Johnsson returns a 1st rounder at present. Tough injury and a bad season almost assures that to be the case.
Kapanen could likely return a lower 1st rounder as his skill set is known and his cap hit/term are manageable.
That being said... Everything below the top two lines in this presentation is small sample sizes, unknowns, near retirees and AHL'ers.
The D has not improved and you are left with a two line team and a little over 3 million dollars in cap space to build a contender with two key UFA's at seasons end?
No thanks.

In short... the trades you have suggested here are not realistic and contrary to the direction of the franchise and the team that you've left behind is a two line group with an unimproved D Core and a bottom six that is made up of a bunch of unproven NHL'ers, a single aging veteran who is almost 38 years old and a bunch of AHL'ers with two key UFA's leaving at seasons end and 3 million dollars to improve the team in a flat cap market.

Anything else genius? Or do you get it now?

On what planet is Johnsson a 3rd liner?

I agree lack of bidders might keep return below a 1st, but again, you're missing the point. It's a cap dump for futures.

Johnsson is a 3rd liner on any team that doesn't spend 50% of their cap on 4 forwards and then is forced to plug other roster players into roles that they shouldn't be in because they have no other option. How you think a player who can only muster 3 even strength goals in half a season playing with elite forwards should be on a top line is beyond me. If Johnsson was a bonifide top 6 forward, his contract and term would be a good deal. However his output on the ice is that of a 3rd line player, and playing with other 3rd line players it would be even worse. Just because a player is playing on the top line doesn't mean he is a top line player.

Both under 26. Both on cheap contracts (despite what you say, neither are in the top 300 in salary in the league). Both get about .5 pts per game. Kapanen on the 3rd line with often bad linemates, and johnsson on a line and not designed to get points but to retrieve pucks. And both have good advanced stats.

I bet you don't consider Hyman a top 6 forward either. Johnsson IS a top 6 player. Been playing there a few years. But I mean you know more than multiple nhl coaches and GMs i guess.

Johnsson hasn't even played "a few" years in the NHL. hes barely played 120 career games. His average time on ice is 15:45, 13:40, 11:42. not top 6 minutes.

30 career goals too and he will be 26 in november.

26 is not old. Played on elite Swedish team before coming to the NHL, and was nearly a point per game player in a defensive league. And he gets almost no powerplay time here. He's essentially tied for 6th most ice time among forwards this year. And again, his job isn't to get points. But last 2 years he's been on pace for over 20 goals and 50 points. That's...good? Certainly worth a contract that isn't amongst the 300 highest in the league.

I mean, last year he was on pace for 48.3. That's pretty close.

You will not get a 1st in the deepest draft since 03 for Kapanen. Not unless it's picks like 25-35.

Are you seriously suggesting Johnsson is comparable to Hyman? And again, an NHL coach played him on the top 6 because he had to put someone on the roster in the top 6 because his options were limited after eating up 50% of the cap on 4 forwards. But I guess since you capitalized the word "is", then Johnsson must be a top 6 player. Hey, I guess that theory must be correct, as proven by my following statement. Oiler3535 "IS" seriously delusional in regards to Johnsson's value.

I disagree that those players are worth 1st rounders

kap is worth a late 1st at best. I could see teams at the deadline paying that for him. Johnsson and a 1st is a no. Maybe last year when he scored 20 goals and was making 790k but now no. A conditional 2nd is the best they can get
