  1. Zadorov, Nikita [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Detroit move a struggling prospect for immediate help at LHD. Zadorov can play against opponents' top lines to insulate Detroit's younger Dmen, while also being young enough to fit their rebuild.

Unfortunately the cap situation will be stagnant for this year, but when the playoffs start....if the NHL gets moving in another 6 weeks, people will be salivating to watch a sport and any sport. I bet the TV viewership will skyrocket more then a normal playoff year which should be good to recoup revenues or part of the regular season lost revenues. As such, I expect a modest increase next summer and with Seattle playing a big increase in the summer of 2022. Just my 2 cents

Isn't the TV deal is a flat rate of $200M a season?

That's where it gets interesting though. Maybe the NHL, since they are jamming a lot of games in, works a special deal. Maybe NBC agrees to get another network to broadcast out of market games for the qualifying rounds and round robin before the playoffs technically start? Or maybe NBC agrees to play the games on all of their networks? I don't know the answer, but I'm guessing the NHL is in discussions wit the TV networks especially NBC.

I don't know a lot about the business side of NHL. I was reading about this and the current TV deal NBC is paying $200M a season and expires after the 2021-2022 season. Which is the same time the current CBA expires since the NHLPA decided not to opt out of the current CBA. The next TV deal is expected to be huge because NBC's ratings just continue to rise. Since the NHLPA didn't opt out of the current CBA wouldn't the owners and the league want to keep the same cap until it's time to negotiate the new TV deal and new CBA? Knowing that a big payday is coming with a new TV deal, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the NHLPA not to oppose a flat cap until 2022 because it puts them in a better position when the negotiating a new CBA?

As I said I don't know a lot the business side of the NHL. So if I'm way off I apologize in advance.

Take a look at what Toffoli just pulled in as a playoff rental and 18 months older then Saad and I don't think many people would argue Saad is a superior player.

Toffoli as a pending UFA with $4.6m caphit returned:

Tim Schaller · $1,900,000
Tyler Madden · $0 (AHL/JR) (Signing Rights)
2020 2nd round pick (VAN - #43)
2022 conditional 4th round pick* (VAN)
*Conditions: Pick is transferred if Tyler Toffoli re-signs with the Vancouver Canucks

That's:

- a 4th liner pending UFA / $1.9m salary dump
- a 2018 3rd round pick who had a good D+1 and D+2 seasons
- 2nd
- conditional 4th in 2022 if he resigns

That would essentially be something like:

Saad for:

- Nieto ($1.975m 4th line pending UFA)
- Beaucage
- 2nd
- 2022 conditional 4th

Keep in mind that Toffoli had $1.4m AAV less than Saad. The trade was also considered to be a very high price by Vancouver at the time of the trade.

Granted the prospect might need to be some slightly better than Beaucage (compared to Madden), but looking at the Toffoli trade and the comparable here I don't think a Jost + 3rd trade is that bad an offer. Keep in mind that Colorado wouldn't really need to send any salary back which is also valuable.

Thanks for the clarification. I got that impression from some discussions about him on other forums.

But my point is, Saad is a superior player then Toffoli so it's a starting point for what he's worth. Hawks had multiple 1st round offers for Saad and declined and said it will take a 1st and a good prospect or solid role player. That hasn't changed after saad was on pace for 30 goals this season and his defensive stats were great. Saad's value has gotten better since last summer because of this. Toffoli is a good gauge to what a player not as good as Saad returns.

Fair enough. Thank you for the discussion, it's helped give me some indication about his value which was partly my intention in making this AGM.

The idea with Saad was to pick up a player with a high AAV as a 1 year rental to make use of our unused capspace before we need to resign Makar/Landeksog/etc in 2021. That said, if Saad will cost a 1st + good prospect then I don't see Colorado moving for him. I'd much rather go for someone like Killorn who has lower AAC and more term than Saad, and should only cost something like a 2nd + 3rd or something thereabouts to acquire. Maybe even Palat will waive his NTC and be available for a 2nd. Either way there should be some really good bargains available this offseason due to the flat cap.

If Chicago was in a cap crunch maybe it would work but with Shaw going to LITR likely and Chicago buying out Smith (I suspect) they will be just fine against the cap.
