how good is brickley?
i feel like this could work with someone like Wagner instead?
Leddy himself is what, 2 2nds approx? Komarov removes 1 of em... so i think this could work if the asset is more nhl ready
Brickley was a promising defensive prospect. He missed some time due to injury, then his father died during the season and he missed some more time, so it set his development back a bit. He was playing really well in the AHL for the dozen or so games prior to the season getting canceled though.
He's similar to a Rob Scuderi/Derek Forbort/Justin Schultz type defenseman. Large body, but not overly physical. Good stick, blocks a lot of shots, always in good position. Best case 2LD, but probably more of a 3rd pairing guy.
Don't think the Kings would give up someone like Wagner for Leddy. The Kings want a veteran LHD with experience that can come in and fill the gap until Bjornfot is ready in a season or two. Ideally they want someone that previously played in a top pairing/leadership role, but is on the back end of his career and whose play is on the decline. They could get someone in free agency without having to give up assets, but I think they'd jump at the chance to get a guy like Leddy or Hjalmarsson, especially if it doesn't cost them any higher-end assets.
Brickley is probably an NHL quality defenseman, but he's a project. The development of guys like Anderson, Hults, and Clague has made him expendable to LA.
