Description

Here's a trade I believe works for both teams. A Nylander has a ton of talent but needs to put it together, playing with his Brother William I believe will help him tremendously reach his potential. Koekko is a very gritty physical Defenseman for a 3rd line or 7th man role. Leafs need more of that. For the Hawks Kap brings speed in the bottom 6 that the Hawks need. Coupled with the Debrincat and Strome line, Kap brings a very similar aspect as Saad would playing with speed and a 2 way game but Saad needs to stay on the top line with Kubalik and Toews.

Not sure Kap is landing you guys a solid top 4 on a good contract at the peak of their career or on the rise. Kap is good on a fair contract, but he's not a solidified top 6 lock at this point in his career and whether he becomes that is the gamble.

I agree that if Nylander's raw tools come together he will be a better player then Kap. That said, that's the gamble either team would be betting on or against.

I hope you know Kapanen is 2 and a few months older than Nylander which is not a big difference.

I'm not sure Bowman wants to give up on Nylander this quickly after having just traded Jokiharju away for him last season. If you look at it from that perspective, Jokiharju, koekkoek, and a 3rd for Kapanen is a very steep price and having along been less than 1 season removed from the trade that acquired Nylander, that's the way I think we need to look at it. Kap is an upgrade right now over nylander but there's no way we give up on that potential this early. Like I said we've had nylander for less than 1 season.

And you get the upside of Nylander who if he can put together his game, which I think his Brother can help with, he will be better then Kap...it's a gamble for both sides. Also, adding Koekko adds physicality the Leafs defense lacks.

No doubt Nylander has more raw talent. Kap has raw speed but Nylander has better stick handling, passing and a shot and isn't exactly slow either

Their paths have been very different as well. Nylander is only just starting to come into his own.
