so pointless, i mean you draft all this skill and then you have to pay them later. And from what everyone has told me that's bad. You cant pay all these players. You need to trade them because the cap. you need to trade them for cheaper options or else you will never contend.

You can afford them if you have your core set and don’t have weaknesses in any location. Just like St Louis and Boston. You have to have at least 2-3 core guys locked on good contracts. You can’t pay all of them market value out of their ELC and expect to compete. Especially with a shallow prospect pool and a big need at RHD

honestly, I'm incredibly thankful they never paid Stone $13 million a season, or Karlsson $13 million a season, or whoever else. The team has been smart and they've committed to the young core that we have. Chabot 8 years, White 6 years, Tkachuk, Batherson ... etc. will all mostly be locked. Eugene has been foolish sometimes but he has also been extremely passionate about the team and he wants to see it win. His passion sometimes makes him say things that he shouldn't. Melnyk will pay up when necessary just as the team has done under him in the past. I think people forget of the incredible teams Ottawa iced in the past under Melnyk.
