if cap remains 815 here is what Id do

Description
This hinges on the NHLPA agreeing to pay 30+% in escrow back to owners over 3 years and in turn the cap remains frozen at 81.5 for 3 years.

I think Coyotes do this deal because nearly half of Johnsson contract is paid out assuming trade happens after the next signing bonus. I dont see Hall resigning in Coyote land.

The Sabres trade follows the same logic money wise as the Coyotes trade, nearly half of Kerfoot's deal is paid out and they need a C with some offensive skill. And Sabres currently have 5 UFA FWs.

The trickery part will be the expansion draft, Leafs will need to give Seattle something in order to keep their D in tact.

I have not looked but doesn't Demers make a decent chunk of money? If I'm right...then I'd rather get a pick/prospect.

Yea, I think the Leafs might be go like that if the cap remains the same and there isn't a cap "forgiveness" plan due to Covid. Meaning the league had announced an approximate 86m cap pre Covid.

Last year (this year too) it was okay to roll with having players making 3+ million on that 3rd line. I think it's going to be way harder in future years to pull that off.

I don't know how realistic it is for a Nylander or Marner trade post COVID-19 but if one of those two are not moved, the days of 3rd line players making 3+ million on on the Leafs are probably over.

One skill guy making 3ish million surrounded by workers is the way to go for a 3rd line going forward.

That is if you want improve the D on the Leafs.

Question for you, what are your thoughts on Ceci?
Hypothetically, would you bring him back at say 2 million on 1 year deal?

I thought Ceci got better as the season went along. But for the Leafs sake and especially Ceci's, I don't think he should be brought back unless both parties have no choice. Not so much because of his play, but because he has been "poisoned" in the media and social media like CapFriendly. He's needs a fresh start and your 2m X 1 would be acceptable for most teams. I still maintain that Barrie was the Leafs worse Dman last season...by a lot .

Can't improve the D if you are only making marginal moves at the forward position. Marginal forward moves means the D only gets marginally better and we both know that the D has to be better by alot more than that.

Those are some very good points. Yeah it's hard to disagree with you on Barrie being the worse D because aside from his defensive play, he did not really provide what he's known for.
