So Minnesota is gonna give up their top 4 defenseman for someone who hasn't even proven anything?
Imagine asking for Kapanen in a Montour trade and then asking Minnesota to this tears of joy

Often times veterans are traded for prospects.

This specific trade has been lauded on here by many as Minnesota is looking for a young center and they already have 2 defensemen making over 7.5 million and another making 6 million a year.

I've also never asked for Kapanen for Montour. I mentioned that they were drafted in the same year because some how kapanen "hasn't reached his full potential" while montour "is the most overrated player in the league" to point out how inconsistent those statements were considering they were drafted on the same weekend.

In the Strome trade,
I’d try to swap out that 1st & add Risto or Montour instead
Keep whoever they don’t want

These means we don’t get Mangiapane,
but I’m not sure why Calgary would trade him anyways
He just had a good year for them & is coming into his own
Plus they supposedly are ready to trade Bennett,
and possibly Gaudreau &/or Monahan
Can’t trade everyone

I like the idea of going after Brodin
No clue what it would really take
But your offer doesn’t seem as unreasonable as ppl are saying
They probably assume Mitts has no value,
which i disagree with

The biggest issue i have is that u didn’t upgrade Hutton
He played well at times, but also horribly at others
Need someone more consistent

And Oglevie?
If he’s staying in the organization, I’d bet it’s on an AHL deal
He’s already 25
Don’t think he’s likely to ever wear the blue & gold

Brodin isn't getting traded a top 4 dman for a guy who hasn't shown anything
I know Minnasota would wanna trade Brodin but this package is just nowhere near what it needs to be

Wow did you realize Montour was eligible for the 2012 draft? But he didn't get drafted until 2014. Kapanen is 23 and Montour is 26.
This is basically Kapanens second year and this is Montours 4th year. Yes Montour has hit his potential and Kapanen hasn't even come close to his potential. So before you say Montour has potential look at his age

that would hold water if this was 2016, not 2020. kapanen is what he is. its 6 years after he was drafted.

Until I would say a player gets to the age of 26, a player really hasn't hit his potential. Yes and Montour is actually been in the nhl longer than Kapanen. And if he was drafted in his first eligible year it would be 8 years. Your not getting Kapanen

I never said buffalo was getting kapanen. I said your potential point was moot and I stand by it.

CHI and MIN trades are classic cases of quality vs quantity. They're hoping that BUF can advance their team with proven NHL players that are cost controlled. In exchange for two decent, but not particularly good sets of projects for other teams to hope/dream may turn good at some point maybe in the future. MIN can pretty easily get a 1st and more at the TDL. CHI isn't waiting until 2022 in exchange for Strome and they have plenty of Asplunds. CHI's window isn't 2024 when that pick would likely make the NHL. Florida doesnt need McCabe. They need that pick more. Risto is the closest of the 4 trades.

The reporting around Dylan Strome is that he is available and the cost is not prohibitive. I would absolutely think this package qualifies as such.

Also Brodin is a year away from UFA.... that is not cost controlled...

As mentioned, MIN can pretty easily get a better package at the TDL.

Stan better be playing hardball with Strome. He took Strome's career from the graveyard from the AZ/Tuscon purgatory and put him with guys like Kane and Debrincat and even gave him PP time his 1st year. Stan needs to understand ALL of his options. That's all he's doing. Finding out what the market really is for him...and conveying that to his agent.

RE Strome, maybe Bowman is considering trading him bc he is weary of giving him big money when he was played with great wingers. That and Chicago is in really bad cap shape for how poor of a club they are currently.

Maybe they can. But i doubt it. Likely its gonna be a late 1st vs an early 2nd and a worse prospect than mittelstadt

Yeah, absolutely. Strome needs to make a choice. Get paid today or sign a 1 year prove it deal (understanding today's cap environment) in a situation that's set up perfectly for your success...like he is in CHI. They just dont have the cap for what he wants. Hes got to make a choice. Immediate pay today or possibly a greater payday down the road.

Let's look at this another way. Is the better or worse than an offersheet? 2021 unprotected 1st and a 3rd. All teams would rather have that than this trade.

Worse. Asplund isn't junk. Better than a 3rd. As a GM I'd roll the dice on a Sabres 2022 first round pick rather than some mid to late first rounder from a team Strome would willingly sign an offer sheet with. Good chance Sabres suck again next year. I'd take that bet 100 times out of 100.

All the trades are in the realm of reasonable except for getting a 2nd for McCabe. Maybe at the trade deadline to a contender with injuries but not during the offseason. A 3rd might be possible so not too far off.

If you think the Sabres are going to be worse 2 years from now than they will next year...why make any trade for Strome??? keep the picks.

That's what I would do. Wait to try to fix the team until after the expansion draft. But that is a tangent and wholly irrelevant as to which trade has more value. As it stands related to your question, I'd take Asplund and a protected 2021 first from the Sabres over a miscellaneous 1st and 3rd from a team of Strome's choosing.

That's a fair assessment especially the overall strategy on BUF's path forward. I have a different take on it. CHI only has "X" amount of years left with Toews/Kane. I would prefer to have the unprotected 2021 than an unprotected 2022.

Ok, I can buy that. They're both 31 and have a boat anchor in Seabrook attached to them. Take the 1st now and maybe flip it for some more immediate help. Not sure they'd want to make the pick if they're jumping back into go for it mode for the next 2-3 years.

And he scored 15goals, that’s not great
I doubt he ever wears a Sabres sweater in the regular season
