Description
I don't think our team was bad enough to justify completely dismantling it and starting a rebuild. It could use some help on the second line and a little bit of depth here and there but other than that I think it would be at least a bubble team, and definitely a playoff team in a year or two. Some trades likely still happen, like the Hoffman, Smith, and Reilly trades.

Defense I think is fine, as Chabot - Karlsson would be one of the best offensive pairs in the league. Wolanin would be on Ottawa's second pair right now if he didn't get injured in the preseason, and Jaros has looked good in every callup he's seen.

The goalies aren't too strong but Nilsson and Hogberg have both played well enough this year for this team to make the playoffs.

The AHL team could use some help but that's fairly easily fixed.

How so? Tkachuk was taken in the 2018 draft, we didn't start selling players until Karlsson in September 2018. If anything Colorado just doesn't get Byram.

As much as I like Brannstrom, the only trade I'd like a redo on is Stone. He was the future Captain but Ottawa/Melnyk walked him out the door via arbitration. Ottawa offered what Vegas gave him except the most important factors in a contract; security via a NMC and NTC.

Karlsson was difficult at the time, but look at it now. He is half the man he was because of his entire leg. Basically, what made him dynamic and exciting is no longer there. He just can't skate. Don't get me wrong, he's still a really good player, but not anything near what he used to be.

This team here finished dead last. Even with all these players. Dead. Last. Maybe things would be different. But as it stands, Ottawa is going through this rebuild.

Ottawa is in a position to really rebuild from scorched earth with two really exiting young guys in Tkachuk and Chabot... + 2 top 5 picks possibly.

With the exception of Mark Stone and maybe Matt Duchene depending on how Abramov and Thomson work out, I would rather keep what we have.

The Arbitration thing is what hurts me the most about the Stone thing. He wanted a long term deal before heading into arbitration, and he wasn't even asking for as much as he got. His number in Arbitration was 9mil, which means he didn't expect anything close to that. If they had committed in the summer they were probably looking at something in the 8×8 range.

Exactly. When Tkachuk (senior) says that Mark Stone is the real deal, sign him ASAP. It does irk me and I hope with Pageau, the trading of core players is done... As soon as July 1 hits this year, Tkachuk better be signed to an 8 year deal.

I really believe that Stone wanted to go to a win-now team.

And, anything less than a 7-8 year deal would be devastating for Tkachuk.

He's getting 8 years, because you give your Captain 8 years without question.

I still can't believe it. I went from hating the pick in 2018 to Tkachuk becoming my favorite player. I just got myself a jersey. lol

Every single game I like him a little more as a player.

The habs game over the weekend is the game that sealed it for me as the future Sens captain over Chabot (taking nothing away from Chabot)

Brady Tkachuk has been the Captain from the moment Stone was traded.

There's a good chance that Chabot will be the better player, but Brady is the clear choice for the C. Brady is the one who can drag the team into the fight. Even when nothing is going right, Brady is still in the muck dropping big hits and rattling goalies.

Brady is going to be a nightmare in the playoffs. Murder is basically legal in the playoffs.
