I’ll just chime with the other side of responses on the spectrum. I agree, you are right, he waited too long. Gus especially was such a mess up and waste. Easily fetched a 1st as late as this summer.
As for the goalies, I’m gonna be harsh towards every hawks fan real quick here. Simply put: wake the hell up hawks fans. I’m still shocked how many fans were so convinced that the moves bowman made this summer put us in playoff territory. Guys, this is a problem BIGGER than just players. It’s management, it’s scouting, it’s coaching, and beyond all else, it is now becoming culture. This is the new reality of the Blackhawks, and nothing in the last three years remotely suggests we have the front office or players to move forward. Stan and Colliton have to go. Kirby Dach? Ain’t gonna win you a cup, especially in the central division. Boqvist? Love the kid, but has so much defense to learn still. Nylander? Just stop. Better goalie tandem? Who cares when the defense in front them does jack ****?
So were worried about messages to the team? How bout questions, like, why can’t you win? Toews, why aren’t we winning? Kane, why are you the only one who can put up big points? I’ll bet you any money in the world, even if it’s behind close doors, none of them can sack up and admit the team is just ****. So yes, Stan did wait way too long, problem is he waited about two years too long. This team hasn’t deserved playoff hockey since they panicked after the predators swept us in 2017. The culture of excellence in this organization died that summer. In fact, I’ll finish by saying this: Stan didn’t want too long, rocky and McDonaugh have waited too long. Too long to clear house and get new, modern NHL minds in the front office and team that could move this team forward.
