Why? Bc Jensen was a great player while playing in Detroit. If he has another solid season you could easily get a similar return you did last time 2nd and a roster player. ALEXEYEV is our best D prospect also. Idk why people assume the only name they know is who the trade is based around. It’s just stupid. TB is 24 and is going to put up a career high of 50 points this year so it’s safe to say he’s a 40-50 point player ? It take more than a 1sf round pick and our best prospect to get a 40-50 point player who isn’t even young ? Try to leave bias out of your response or at least look up who the other player is in the trade.

Sorry Detroit isn't trading Bertuzzi!

My question is why not? He’s 24 and if you could get an A level prospect who fills a need that to help in the future why not? Unless you think this team will compete in the next year or two why not build assets now to be better tomorrow?

laugh So your best D prospect+ Plus a guy we traded because he no longer fit our system+A potential #31 overall pick if the Caps win the Cup this summer. For Bertuzzi and 3rd rounder. Sorry dude not happening unless it's massive overpay it's not happening. We don't need Jensen back we're set for a foreseeable future at RD with Hronek, Seider and Lindstrom no need for Jensen. Bertuzzi isn't even in his prime yet and it's delusional to think that he's only a 40 to 50 point winger. Yes on a garbage Detroit team that perhaps true. Pretty sure he's a 60-70 point winger with the Caps, AVs perhaps the Oilers placed in the right situation. Bottom line we're not moving Bertuzzi for lesser pieces. And to suggest Jensen was great i Detroit is purely laugh he was okay i wouldn't call him great. He isn't needed period.

See you logic is flawed bc he’s getting top line minutes in Washington he’s a bottom 6 forward. So bc he’s good on your terrible team doesn’t mean it translates that way with an actual good team

Red Wings fans treating Bertuzzi like he's Connor McDavid. 40-50 point player, for a Red Wings team this far down in the standings, no one should be off limits. You guys are the worst team in the league, and it's not even close. You're pretty far away from competing right now. Alex squared is going to be a top 4 shutdown D in a couple of years. Their value is at an all time high, and Bertuzzi is a 3rd liner on the Caps. Detroit should consider this.

Doesn't matter Bertuzzi isn't available. And it would take far more then this to get him anyways. And i bet you money he'll get a 7-8 year deal in the neighborhood of $5.5-6.0m per season this summer. And i doubt you'd have the cap to resign him anyways.

He's Detroit's leading scorer. There aren't many players with his skill set one being Wilson, Brady Tkachuk and Matthew Tkachuk. Now Matthew is in a different tier but the same skill set. Detroit took him almost 2 rounds early because he has been a fixture with the Wings since Uncle Todd was with the Wings. It's the front office that wanted him not just the GM and his staff it went higher Jimmy Devellano and Christopher Ilitch made getting Bertuzzi a priority. He is 19th in points among his draft class and he is the only player in his draft class over 100 points in less than 200 games.

So you've like $10.5 million to sign 7 players even with Holtby off the books. Bertuzzi by himself eats half that much.

laugh Calling Tyler Bertuzzi a 40-50 point player is a joke. Larkin is in the 40-50 point range this season is he a 50-60 point guy. You're talking about a Red Wings team that in the last several years has had problems scoring. So yeah that keeps the points down i see Bertuzzi more as a 50-60 point winger then 40-50 point winger he's just approaching his prime now. And will only get better.

He isn't that on the Caps, and he's not that on Detroit so far. The value above is pretty close for him. What hypothetical situation or team is he reaching 60 points, consistently? None of that matters anyway. When you're as bad as Detroit now is, you are in SELL everything mode for future pieces. How far away is Detroit from competing again, realistically? If it's more than a few years, then sell now and build for the future. Alex squared's potential is a top 2 D man. That's worth a 40-60(50) point player who's 5 years older.

Main reason is if you continue to trade assets that show they can play in the NHL for picks, you are stuck in a rebuild and you will never exit. Wings have started a rebuild, and have some very good young defensemen, in Sieder, McIssacs and Lindstrom in the AHL. As you said people focus in the name they know, well please do not focus on the NHL team on the ice only, Wings have talent in GR. What they need is grit and scoring up front. It is not that it is not a fair trade but not a trade that fits what the Wings need.

Bertuzzi fits a role on the Wings and moving forward they hope to be in 2 or 3 years a playoff contender. TB will be 27 and will be a leader.

You say bias, that is your opinion, but to rebuild you need to draw a line in the sand and build not keep moving the line for younger players. I always find it funny when a person on here says you stink or you are in a rebuild, so trade me good to very good players for future assets. Rebuilding teams do not trade good young players for future assets, because you become a farm team for the NHL.

1st off Wings have alot of young talented defensemen, they need scorers.

2nd I bet you are the same guy who said Vegas could not compete for years. Saying the Wings are a long way off is showing you know nothing about the NHL. St. Louis who were last on Jan 3rs won a cup. With the right coach and mix of players, both young and older the Wings could make the playoffs in a 2 to 3 years. Yes we are bad and yes it looks bleak but turnarounds happen and trading good players for assets is a recipe to never turnaround.

laugh My logic is flawed, Pretty much what you're telling me here is? That you're willing to give up your best LHD prospect + Jensen+ your 2020 1st round pick say #27-#31 overall for a guy that would be in your bottom 6 sounds like a pretty expensive package for a bottom 6 guy by your logic here.

The expansion draft is incredibly generous, so no I wouldn't have said that. But thanks for trying.

Okay, then why are they still bad after 4 years? (This is rhetorical, please don't answer.)

No. I’m not willing to do this. Bc you could get a player that’s way better for this price. I’m simply saying that this package would easily get this guy and it would be a terrible use of prospect and pick. Alexeyev is going to be a top pairing dman at worst top 4. No need to dump those assets for a guy that’ll be on the 3rd line.

I’d rather get a guy like Labanc for way less and he’ll put up similar numbers.

Since when is 24 or 25 next year young? You guys have 15 wins this year and you think you’ll get 2x more wins in 2-3 years? TB will be 27 when you are ready to compete? That’s best case scenario. Wouldn’t you rather have a player develop into a 40 point player and be 21 when you’re ready to compete? Again if I’m the caps I’ll buy a equivalent player for way less.

Fine we don't need Alexeyev. We've our own Alexeye his name is Mortiz Seider in case you forgot. So Alexeyev isn't a need. Detroit loves Bertuzzi his uncle Todd playing there and all Detroit wanted Tyler in the worst way and we're not dealing him period. His value is far greater to us then it would ever be to the caps.
