I mean the VGK is one sided, yes Petry's good but he's not a 1st and two top prospect (Yes I know Muzzin blabla). If this trade happens I'll bust a nut right in front of my screen.

I agree.

Krebs was widely considered a lottery pick type player that just fell short only. Hague is a 2nd rounder but only just (34th OV) and aside from that is already an NHL'er and looking like a decent one to boot.

Durzi was a late 2nd rounder who has yet to play NHL hockey and Grundstrom, another late 2nd rounder, while on a small sample size has done nicely hasn't stuck yet with the Kings despite their clear rebuild.

I won't disagree that Petry @ 50% retained is arguably more valuable than Muzzin was when he was traded but lets say he was equal or even slightly more, that don't mean the picks and players involved in the trade all get majorly upgraded this way.

Frankly, if MTL wanted to maximize the value they get for Petry (On a normal year I mean - the 2020 draft may be the exception), they'd get max value back if they accepted only draft picks. The minute you start adding former 1st rounders and prospects who are playing full time in the NHL, the value skyrockets up. Now throw in the fact that the 2020 draft is a strong one AND Vegas may not even make the playoffs this year....

Hague, Krebs, and 1st round 2020 (unprotected) is quite possibly the highest return in a trade we've seen a long time. Too much for Petry despite the market for him.

Yeah but we bad at drafting. Remove the draft pick and I'm most likely still making that trade, Krebs should've been top 10 but his injury hurt his draft stock sadly.

I don't think we'll trade for a LD even if I like Hague, we love Romanov, Chiarot, Mete, Norlinder, Struble, Harris, Scandella .... You see what I'm doing there?

In this trade I get rid of Mete for Niku Sami. Mete is too small. I like what is coming up the pipeline but we need some immediate help for next year and depth. My 2 cents.

There's no way Edmonton does this. Lavoie was a consensus 1st round pick that somehow lasted into the early 2nd + you want a 2nd in a very deep draft + a 3rd + a 3LD who is worth a 3rd - for 1 year of Tomas Tatar?

Habs haven't been that bad at drafting recently but their development of young players has been horrendous. I don't blame the players Timmins has chosen. I blame the person who decides how we should develop our players. Also the trade above changed from a 1st to a 3rd so that changes a lot. As for Hague, he's already ahead of almost every on of those names you mentioned except for Romanov and Chariot. I'd gladly ship out some of those other guys in place of Hague any day of the week if need be.

Either way, I was just pointing out that a lot of people are looking at the Muzzin trade and then replacing the two prospects LAK got in that deal with premium prospects instead because they think Petry is a Norris calibre dman somehow. He's good but he's not as good as some people's trade demands have been. NOW should the Habs ask for the moon if they decide to move him? OF COURSE. but realistically they won't get it.

But Gaston Therrien said that we'd get better than what LAK got ... How could HE be wrong! /s

Well two things: (BTW not sure if you are being sarcastic or not so i'll just assume you aren't)

"Better" is relative. Better could mean McDavid and four 1st rounders or it could mean what LAK plus a 7th. See the problem with saying better? So people hear Gaston say better and automatically think two 1sts, a top prospect and a young player. What he probably means is what LAK got plus an extra pick like a 3rd rounder.

Secondly, the hockey personalities in Quebec are just as bad as the hockey personalities in the rest of the country. Most of them are former players who can tell you all about the X's and O's of playing in the NHL and whatnot perfectly but when it comes to player values and trade valuation, are so far behind the reality it should be a crime for them to speak publicly about such things.

Gaston Therrien's job is to keep you interested in what he has to say. It doesn't matter if its right or wrong. It matters that you keep coming back for more.
