Crazy idea, wonder if the Rangers would do it, solves their 2C question for the foreseeable future and they're pretty flush with wingers and both C/W prospects to make a move like this.

Interesting trade idea for both teams.

I don´t think that this trade would benefit the Rangers. I think they are still looking for picks and prospects rather then "older" roster players. In my opinion Johansen is on the decline already, and with the Rangers cap situation they wouldn´t want that high cap hit. And I don´t think that they want to move Gross until they have seen him on North American ice. He played well during the WJC so I guess they want to keep him a bit longer.

Canucks would decline, pretty set on the wings and would likely be keeping Tanev unless someone overpays for him

gross been good considering where he was drafted but his nhl chances are still slim to none. rangers wouldn't hesitate to trade him, nor should they. Johansen is still very good, that team generally been underperforming.

More picks and prospects? How many do you need?
Look at who you added this summer and for how long, your D is set for years, likely extending Zibenejad in a couple seasons plus your strong on the wings for the foreseeable future, all you need is a 2C really, not sure if Nashville would do this though.

We have a (low end) 2nd line center in Ryan Strome who is playing very well offensivly this season. So we don´t need another 26+ year old center who will be on the wrong side of 30 when the Rangers will be contenders and a very high cap hit when we need guys like Kakko, Kravtsov, Zibanejad, Shestjorkin,... want to get paid. So a center 24 years or younger would be more preferable

You could be a contender a lot quicker if you had a 2C like Johanson, Panarin, Kakko and Trouba signal the end of the rebuild, adding a good 2C makes sense at this point.

I guess the Rangers would wait and see which pick they will get in the draft anyways. If they can pick up a center in the top 6- top 8 they wont trade for another center. This would make either Strome or Howden expandable. So if they can not pick up a center in the draft who can play as 2nd line center within the next 2 seasons they might trade for another guy. But I think they wont rush that decission and make a trade before the draft
