You’re joking right? Thompson is literally one of the best 4th line centers in the league. Dowd is one of the worst. I watched Dowd for many years in the Kings organization.

That or Dowd improved a lot, with age and practice? I remember thinking Thompson was better, with the Kings, but Dowd has been solid in Washington, and grown into a similar role to what Thompson plays. Nothing wrong with depth, but yeah, ice time this year could be shared depending who's playing better each week.

Dowd is not all that good. I’ve watched even after he left the Kings. I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion. In this scenario I believe Thompson will contribute much more than Dowd in the regular season and the playoffs. He’s way more experienced in those areas as well.

I don't know what 4th line player in the NHL is evaluated on point production lol. He's a magical penalty killer probably one of the best in the league as far as 4th liners. Having centers like Eller and Thompson to play the PK would give guys like Backstrom and Kuzi the ability to focus on 5 on 5 and power play without the team worrying about the PK which is why I traded for him on here.
Caps players get enough points as it is so switching Dowd for Thompson only makes them better defensively. Because Thompson IS BETTER defensively.
