Ok but we don't have to trade him. I think that's the point that you're missing. Goaltending depth is very important and the only need that the Penguins have is a 3rd line center if Bjugstad stinks when he gets back and maybe defensive depth. I just don't think we're a good match. If I was the GM and you offered a 2nd rounder (doesn't matter the year) or a 3rd and a c level prospect I'd do it but you have to think about the needs of the other team when you make these

Get real, a backup you have buried in the minors in any situation would never have the value of top prospect.

The problem becomes how much UFAs get in the off-season. As soon as one guy gets overpaid...then more players get overpaid.

Agreed. I know it's a different sport but the point remains the same look at what Cole's contract did to the market!....glad we didn't get him because it probably would have taken 10 years and $400mill realistically. I'm not saying he isn't great but the Yankees will regret that contract in about 5-6 years and it's getting harder and harder to offload big contracts without giving up substantial prospect capital or eating a bunch of the remaining money which defeats the purpose. And yeah his ask is ridiculous.
