for a team thats not making the playoffs, is it really worth giving up athanasiou and picks for a guy who's gonna be a rental and leave you in the offseason? hall's said a numerous amount of times that he wants to play for a chance to win soon, and Detroit would certainly not be one of his top choices

Ya, the hall trade literally makes no sense and trading for him will not make the red wings a playoff team.

I was just looking to find someone for AA, I do not think he is part of the plans going forward for Detroit, as for the hall trade I should have stated it is based on him resigning with Detroit, if not the trade does not happen, I believe Detroit will have about 14 RFA's to deal with in the offseason.

I just don't know that its the right time for Detroit to go for a guy like hall. I still think they have some internal growth to do first i.e. they need another top5 pick or two at least and some time for their young guys develop before they look into FAs. Lafreniere or byfield would be a huge step forward, then I think they could use a top d and goalie prospect, let them develop 2-3 years, then they'll be looking good and they can look at FAs. Its gonna be real tough for them to rebuild and get back to the playoffs in the atlantic

As a Wings fan I have to agree. Now I personally think Svechnikov for Puljujärvi value wise is pretty even and I'm probably in the minority there. I'm not sure I'd even make that trade. A couple of seasons ago Svechnikov had a great camp and pre-season but didn't get called up because Holland wasn't ready to admit the Wings need to start over. Then last offseason right before Svechnikov is going to get he shot he blows he tears his ACL and in out for the season. So basically he got screwed and then blows his knee out and he never complained and always had a smile on his face. His attitude was it's no problem I'm just going to work hard but I'm still going to make it. Then you have Puljujärvi who things aren't working out even though he has been given chance after chance playing 139 games over 3 season and now he has decided it not him its the team demands a trade. Since Edmonton hasn't traded him he has gone home until he gets his way.

if Svechnikov doesn't have a future with the Wings and has a chance to play for another NHL team I'm all for him being traded to a team where he can play because he deserves it.

I agree that they need more top picks, I do not think they will trade for Hall, I just don't see AA staying a red wing, I would love the wings to get byfield.

It is more based on the contract talks , because he has been a hold out, if they can come to agreement that works for the team and him I would definitely like to keep him he is a nice piece to have.

Then that's good for Detroit. Have you seen the article posted from the Athletic on JP? As he moves down from the speed of the NHL he gets a lot better and yes he has the NHL skill set scouts and coaches look for except he hasn't been able to use it at NHL speed yet. Now he has had 3yrs to adjust and hasn't been able to and playing pro hockey in Europe isn't helping him adjust at all. I personally think he should be in the KHL it would be the best place for him right now. I also completely understand why Edmonton wants that much for him he's still young and he was a high draft pick. But I think the Wings should steer clear they aren't far enough along in the rebuild to take risks like that. In Hollands last 2 drafts he has taken players that everybody in front of the Wings passed on.

Yea I've read it. I think we should stay away as well. If the asking price is actually that high, I don't think we should risk it. I would give Svech and a 2022 2nd or something like that but that's as high as I would go. Some other team can use their first on him for all I care
