I love that some are saying huge overpayment while others are saying huge underpayment lol. Obviously Nylander is a polarising player. During the season, I'd take Nylander all day. But in the playoffs, when it matters? Nylander becomes useless and Petry would help Rielly like nobody else ever has.

On the side, Nylander is an offense-only forward while Petry is a two-way dman. I know it's a small sample size, but it just so happens they're scoring on basically the exact same pace right now....just saying.

Leaf might benefit short term in the trade. But 1.5 years of Petry doesn't get you 4.5 years of Nylander. And please check a few facts about greatness of Petry in the playoffs. Petry in his eight NHL season has made just two playoff appearances, winning one round.... If Petry is that playoff great, shouldn't the Habs keep him?

I never said Petry was playoff great. I said Nylander was playoff completely useless. Nylander is worth no more than his own contract at best, and that much only during the season. As far as I'm concerned this trade would have the Leafs acquiring a person of need for abolutely nothing with regards to playoff hockey.

I would sure hope so. As previously stated, Nylander is an offense only forward. The Leafs have a bunch of offensive forwards. Petry is a two-way dman. Less points doesn't meen less needed on the Leafs.
