Description
1) Top-6 has been clicking. I don't think you can break either line up until they show signs of a slump.

2) Bardreau is Cizikas-lite. Relentless forechecker and plays with an edge. With Martin out, the best fourth line in hockey is at 2/3rd strength anyway (not to mention, Ross Johnston looked better in that role than Martin at most times). With Brassard staying on RW2, slide Cizikas up to the 3C role, which is probably his skillset, and let Bardreau play on a checking fourth line.

3) Wahlstrom may not see the NHL again this season when everyone returns. This isn't a slight on him. He's playing 10-12 minutes on bottom-6 minutes. Trotz seems to want his young players understand the defensive side of the game first. Which is fine. Top line AHL minutes are better for Wally's development anyway. If Wahlstrom plays less than 10 NHL games, his ELC will slide even though he's in Bridgeport. This is because he's under 20 years old playing in the AHL (thanks Habermetrics for the schooling lesson on this)

4) Dobson will continue to rotate in as Trotz sees fit. I thought he would get 50-60 games this season, but that seems unlikely at the way things have been going. I do think Dobson's case is more unique and he should stay in the NHL (unlike Wahlstrom). Going back to the QMJHL and dominating will do Dobson no good. He's better off getting acclimated to the NHL lifestyle and playing against better competition every day in practice/games.

I agree with everything you said , I just don’t think komarov should be on the 3rd line. Komarov is where offense goes to die. Switch him and dal colle.

Dobson has been very impressive. I thought he great last night. Boychuk/mayfield will get injured sooner than later and that will give Dobson an opportunity to get an extended look

Agreed. As much as Trotz talks about Komarov’s penalty killing value, it’s not like it’s looked any worse while he’s been injured. If anything, it’s looked better.

It’s odd to see Brassard be the Top 6 we all pined for this offseason. Whodathunk? It is cool seeing the ripple effect down to the third line. You’d think a line of Dal Colle-Cizikas-Eberle could get the secondary scoring we need with Barzal, Lee, Nelson and Brassard playing the way they have been lately.

Yeah the pk has been solid. Nelson and beauvillier are both very capable - nelson thinks the game so well and beau has the speed and forechecking ability to make an impact on the pk.

Obviously eberle will be back in the top 6 eventually - I think cizikas is a great playmaker and Ieberle will benefit from that. Dal colle has more offensive upside than komarov which is why I’d rather have him on the 3rd line. Komarov gets the puck and loses it almost immediately after.

Yes, I like this a lot. Based off of this, I’d rather play Johnston over Dal Colle on the 4th line (MDC hasn’t impressed me at all this year tbh). Overwise looks good and in line with how they’ve managed injuries all year

I think you're right on the nose with some of this, only thing I don't agree with is Dobson. I know it's a tricky slope with him, given he can't go to the AHL but anyone who has played the game can tell you practice can never emulate game play. So, yes, it's great that he's practicing everyday with NHL quality players, but he's not getting any game action which is vital for a young players development. The kid needs to be playing everyday, if the only place he can do that is Juniors, then they have to consider it when he gets close to that 9 game mark. My only hope here is that they are dragging out his 9 games in the hopes they can trade one of the other D before then.

As for the lines, I'd like to see something like this when everyone is back...

Lee - Barzal - Bailey
Brassard (can play both wings) - Nelson - Eberle
Beau - Cizikas - Wahlstrom (no reason he shouldn't stay up)
dal Colle - Bardreau - Clutterbuck
Johnston-Komarov

Obviously when Martin and Kuhnhackl come back some decisions will need to be made then.

I don't like wishing injury on players, but it's funny that the injury bug has hit our FWs this year, where we can't really sustain key injuries but has left our D untouched, where we have the depth to absorb key injuries. Since he is already out, having Leddy be out for a little while with his LBI could be a good thing... give Dobson a chance to step in and take the job like Toews did last year.
