You were saying that Toronto contract situation was because of Matthews as a comparable. I responded that team only comparables are not how contracts work and you come back with an entirely new argument as if it was the same one you were making all along.
My response is still accurate. Team only comparables do not exist. What happened here is an anchoring failure by points agent (at least from what we know from public info) and a player who wanted to play more than get a fair contract.

I elaborated on my first post. I said Marner gets that much because his team paid that much to Matthew's. I said Marner would not get that in TB.

You said that isn't how contracts work.

I elaborated: teams have different ways of doing things. Toronto gives out stupid contracts, TB gives out 3 year prove it bridge deals.

6 years is 2 less than it should have been for Marner. 5 years is 3 less than it should have been for Matthews.

In 3 years Point is gonna be an RFA and ask for what? $11M? In 5 years what is Matthews going to ask for? I bet he will want a lot more than $11.6M. I bet he doesn't stay in Toronto either.
