Trading for Honka's rights keeps Boyd off waivers. Signing Honka could lead to waiver problems, though, so probably wait on that until cap space and playing time open up. Then it's not an issue, whether to play him? Dallas fans so far haven't really weighed in on Boyd for Honka, and some other teams are way overbidding, on Honka, as if he's totally, definitely not a bust. Which is still to be seen.
If it's not about cap space, DJoos plays right side, and has outscored Honka by points/game at most comparable levels, after they got drafted, and won a Cup. And finished last year with seven even strength points in his last 18 games, on pace for 31. So he very well could be the most valuable of the guys shuffled around, there.
Boyd is also better than Ehn at offense, but Ehn is a bunch younger, with time to catch up. Detroit fans are sharply divded on whether to break up the Burt Ehn Erne line.
If these moves happen, the Caps are still slightly over the cap, after having given up two good players for prospects, to get under the cap. It's almost there.... but the team is also one random training camp injury away from not having to make any more moves.
