Potential Opening Day Lineup

Description
If you wanna criticize me on Marner's contract being too high or too low, go ahead. I just wanna get an opening lineup set up. I personally do think that 3x8 is fair, considering his qualifying offer would be somewhere in the ballpark of 10.5-11 million dollars when the contract is up, which if Marner keeps up the 90+ point pace, is very fair.

It has been recently discovered that qualifying offers over a certain point are only 100% of the players last contract. So Marner's QO would only be 8 million

it would all depend on how his contract was structured, he may have an 8mill aav but it could be front loaded which would make his qualifying offer lower or back loaded which would make it much higher.

front - year 1 - 12 , year 2 - 6, year 3 - 6 ------ qualifying offer would be 6.9 mill

back - year 1 -6 , year 2 - 6, year 3 - 12 ------ qualifying offer would be 13.8 mill

this is a rough guess cant remember how much of a bump they get think its between 10-15 percent

Or one could spend about 20 second googling and realize that the correct answer is

100% of the base salary if the base salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000.

That was taken directly from this sites, rules for QO.

Meaning Marner's QO will be 100% of his cap hit. You understanding of the QO is a common misconception on this site.

on cap friendly it is based around base salary not cap hit. if they frontloaded his salary and had him make 3 million his contract for next season would only be 3 million

I think you meant base salary rather than cap hit at the end. That would be correct.

If Marner's final year's salary is 10mil, then his QO will be 10mil

Marner 8m 3 yr bridge would look something like

Year 1: 5m sb - 1m bs
Year 2: 6.3m sb - 700k bs
Year 3: 11m bs no signing bonus

Making his QO 11m.

Personally I don’t think this is a deal either side wants. Mitch probably wants a bit more and the QO in year 3 is meaningless because Mitch can just go to arb and hit ufa.

That last D pairing looks pretty terrible. I get that Dermott is injured. Also, no way Spezza gets 3rd line ice time.

I clearly saw everything, don't take that tone with me young person. I just wanted to point out an "issue" I had with your opening day lineup. The whole Mitch Marner chatter gets plenty old plenty quickly.
