I think the idea is that Canes get rid of some D, not add to their D..........

Manning is just a cap dump.....His cap hit is considerably less once sent down to the minors. I wouldn't expect Manning to play in the NHL.....especially for a team with defense as strong as Carolina's.

I like the idea of PoolParty for Faulk. Seems like it would make sense for both teams.

I would say this deal should be structured in a way that doesn’t require us to also give up Manning and additional assets to get rid of Manning. Giving up draft picks to get rid of him just hurts us longer term. He can be buried in the minors and the Oilers would save $1.1MM... then he’s off the books next year.

Maybe Pool Party plus a late pick is enough to get Faulk, with Carolina retaining sufficient cap to keep the Oilers compliant.

I also wouldn’t be against throwing Benning plus a pick into the trade for a younger winger with upside... would make room for Persson / Bouchard. Depending on how the team progresses and how Jones plays, Oilers could then move Russell at the deadline for a pick and let Jones finish the season with the big club.

Yah sure, send 2 D to the Canes, just what they need, should make that 12 NHL D then.

Faulk has trade protection so highly likely Edmonton is on his no trade list, also why trade Pulujarvi and an early 2nd for a UFA, not good asset management.

I think it's funny when people like you try to be critical of others... but just show their stupidity in ways such as not being able to count... Well done, d u m b a s s.

I don't see Edmonton (a) adding a defenseman due to comments Holland has made previously, and (b) buying rentals.

Edmonton had the 5th worst defence in the league last year and haven't done ANYTHING to address it. Regardless of what Holland says they NEED defence.....not to mention that I doubt Holland would ever go out and state that he was looking for D because it would (a) drive the price up and (b) show little support for his current players if no deal can be made.

Gardiner also hadn't signed in Carolina at the time those comments were made.

Faulk is in the last year of his deal and could get the opportunity to play on the powerplay with Connor McDavid and boost his value on his next deal.

Realistically, a 2nd round pick and Puljujarvi ISN'T poor asset management because of the number of 1-year contracts the Oilers already have this season. If they are out of the playoff picture come trade deadline, they could easily move someone (including Faulk) to a contender and recoup the pick if needed. Not to mention that the Oilers haven't exactly been experts in drafting in past years so a 2nd round pick isn't that valuable.

The Oilers NEED to acquire a bonafide NHL player for Puljujarvi.....anything less and the trade will be considered a loss. If acquiring said player means adding pick(s) to a Puljujarvi trade then I'm all in

All Holland has added this year are rentals?

The players that the Oilers have on expiring deals won't fetch more then a 3rd at best, the Oilers
2020 2nd has a good chance of being pretty early in the 2nd which is pretty valuable to a team in Edmonton's position.

It'd be good if they could get a bonafide NHL player for Pulujarvi but it isn't likely given his current value and one without term is useless to a non playoff team which is likely what Edmonton is, yeah they could turn around and trade Faulk at the TDL but that's risky considering an injury could happen and then they've traded good assets for nothing.

This just isn't a good idea for Edmonton and in all reality Faulk likely has Edmonton on his no trade list and he probably isn't waiving to go to the Oilers.

He didn't give up assets for them though. And anyway, my first point precludes this from happening.
