Why would TBL want a D that is bad 5v5 that won't get any PP time?

Doubt Tampa can afford Faulk when Brisebois still has Brayden Point to resign. With Tampa getting Shattenkirk pretty much leaves out Faulk.

This actually saves TBL space meaning it makes no sense for CAR

You're right keep forgetting that Gourde now makes more then Faulk, But it wouldn't work for Carolina they can't afford to take on more cap either.

I actually think the trade makes some sense, but the problem is that Tampa has a logjam at D already after signing Shattenkirk. It would be nice for Tampa to get that salary flexibility next season with Sergachev needing a new deal and Vasilevskiy's new deal kicking in.

THIS is do or die year for Tampa .. team lacks leadership and veteran grit .. Faulk plays with Hedmen.. Mc Donough plays with Cernek .. Serg and Colburn and Shatterkirk are back 3rd pair .. BEST top 7 D in NHL .. also I not sold on Shatterkirk OR Sergachev yet but we will see .. in addition to trade above SAVING 1M cap .. can trade Rutta and grab another 1M .. gives us 10M for Point for 8 years.. come on guys big picture .. be the GM

I wanted this trade to happen before Gourde's NTC kicked in.

Gourde isn't waiving his ntc, he's happy here in Tampa and should be a solid middle 6 player for the next few years. It doesn't make sense for Carolina either as they don't need to add cap in a trade atm. Furthermore, Tampa could not resign Faulk, nor should they with the core they should have going forward(Hedman, McD, Serg, Cernak and Foote is a good dcore). The trade would only save Tampa 340k anyway, no huge savings. I'm fine trading or burying Rutta, as that saves either 1.3 or 1.075 million and Schenn is a better fit as a 7D anyway. Point is never getting 10 million on this contract, but trading or burying Rutta does allow Brisebois to give him around 8 or so and still have the 1.36 available for performance bonuses, which can't roll over to next year given the more difficult cap situation then.

We have leadership, though. McDonagh has been through at least as much as Faulk and captained NYR, and, unlike Faulk, is still an elite defenseman. Maroon just won a Cup. Almost our roster has gone through several deep runs. Cernak, Sergachev, and Shattenkirk is a strong enough right side that Faulk is unnecessary on the ice, and I’m just not seeing what he could possibly add off the ice that we don’t already have.

Gourde has an NTC and that probably ruins this plan anyway, and he’s not a bottom-six grinder no matter how many times you repeat it. I don’t exactly like the contract, but his play style is absolutely motivated by speed and skilled plays and tenacity. He’s a small player who produces well offensively, not a big and heavy-hitting grinder. He’s very far from Williams’s style and would absolutely fit into the Hurricanes’ top-six and would be awful in a role like Williams’s.

Just wow .. how can you get up in morning accepting and rationalizing mediocrity and failure.. EVEN THE OWNER DID A PUBLIC APOLOGY TO FANS FOR THE HISTORIC FAILURE .. winners win and losers lose .. it a fact of life.. and leadership plays HUGE role. Period.
