Nylander's value isn't that high. I'd say a top 15 pick and 3rd rounder at this point. Leafs should not trade him coming off a bad season last year.
Ha ha. He can get a lot more than that, he's young and has a contract that will only keep looking better as the next 5 years goes on. If you're looking for a more accurate description of his value:

If I'm Guerin and Dubas calls me up to ask what I'd give for Nylander, I'd offer Fiala, Spurgeon at half retention, and Eriksson Ek for Nylander and a 3rd.
I like that very much. Maybe the 3rd is conditional, it transfers only is Spurgeon re-signs. Wild also give up a conditional 3rd with the same condition, so if Spurgeon leaves the Leafs keep their 3rd and get one from the Wild and if he stays the Wild get their own and the Leafs' pick.

If you're saying Nylander at 7m is a real good bargain.....yes that's a reason to keep him. It's also a reason that the Leafs could optimize his value in a trade.
But not now. He just had a down year, his value atm is low. The contract is going to look even better as time goes on, maybe if another first round exit happens trading him is a real possibility. Now, I'm keeping him and watching him put up a big year.
