Fair value but it makes no sense for the islanders to trade mayfield for picks. mayfield and a 3rd for kapenen makes more sense.

Kapanen I'd wager can bring back something better than Mayfield. He's a fine depth guy but he's not at all a star or potential star or even a potential high value top pair guy. I bet you could get Bracco though.

Kapanen definitely holds more value than Mayfield.

The issue is Mayfield is needed on the team right now, and the Isles have absolutely no reason to move him for draft picks even if the 2nd and 3rd are fair value. This is one of those situations where in order to acquire a player that you want an overpay would be required as Mayfield is a good player, on a great contract and has multiple years left. He is not a cap dump, a rental, or a player that the Isles are looking to move on from.

I understand that Leafs would not want to overpay for a Mayfield, but the Isles would have no reason to move him then.

Islanders need to make room for Dobson and Wilde... he isn't available now but in the near future I believe he could be

Wilde will be at least 1 more Year.

Dobson certainly could make the jump this Year, if he does the Isles could also easily move Leddy who carries a higher cap hit and move Boychuck to 3 LD on a pairing with Dobson to help mentor him.

The point is Mayfield is not getting moved for Draft Picks right now, next year sure and I do think the 2nd and 3rd would be fair. The only way he is getting moved is if the Isles are bringing in immediate help at the F position. The Isles could certainly look to add to Mayfield to acquire a Kapanen, but that would be dependent on what the additional ask is.
