Since I've seen nick leddy on a bunch of trades this week I'm curious what is everyone's opinion on his trade value and what you could get for him realistically.

I see 2 trade routes for Leddy

1) Straight swap for a Top-6F. As Trotz said, the lineup needs a little more "pop". Ideally, this top-6F would be a power play specialist. Tatar or Hoffman comes to mind.

2) Futures. This would probably signal another move is coming and the Isles need to dump salary. A lottery protected 1st and 3rd OR a 2nd and B+ prospect are likely the starters.

Yeah see the issue I think is that he would leave a giant hole in that dcore even for a top 6 coming the other way my guess is that they would ask for a top 6 with a safety pick on the top 6 guy cause lets be honest leddy is a good dman but to the isles he is way more valuable then his overall league value. But basically yeah I agree with you.

I don't think the d-core will suffer all too much. Hickey is probably the 7th D right now anyways after the emergence of Toews. We have a logjam there, especially if Dobson is ready to play NHL minutes, I'd think Boychuk finds himself playing 40 games as a rotating guy into the lineup.

Pelech-Pulock
Toews-Mayfield
Hickey-Dobson or Boychuk

Trotz's system is a big part of their success. Not saying ANY player they slot in will play well, but generally speaking I don't see much of a hole in that d-core

Tatar is probably the odd man out over the next couple of years in Montreal, I see that as more likely avenue than Hoffman

This is exactly what the ask SHOULD be from the Isles and you don't move him this year unless someone meets it. Only thing I would say is, if futures, a 1st is required no matter what. A 1st plus additional picks or a 1st and a B level prospect should be the demand.

Toews will easily slide into Leddy's role, as he practically took it over last year. Plus the Isles have Aho, who is NHL ready and looked good in his call up two years ago, in the wings to move into the 3rd LHD spot. Isles are looking to move Leddy because they have two guys on cheaper deals who can step in right now and replace him, plus he's our most valuable and movable piece.

I agree 100 percent trotz system benefits this team so much and i actually was thinking dobson would be another year out or so but yeah i can see what you mean looking at it now they would be ok and that top 6 could help push them to a regualr playoff contender dependig of course but thanks man.

I agree he is def the most moveable or highest value in that regard I hope they get a decent top 6 for him if it happens so yeah in conclusion I think its safe to say that a top 6 and maybe a pick to go with it is the value?

If we are getting a Top 6 FW for him I don't see the addition of a pick as an option, unless the FW is on a 1 year deal (Hoffman) than I can see a pick being added from the other team to offset Term. If it's someone with a similar CAP hit and Term (Tatar), then I see more of a 1 for 1 deal happening.... but that's just my opinion.

I say don't trade Leddy at all. Let the younger guys earn those big minutes from Leddy first. If there is anyone who should be traded, its Hickey.

This is exactly it. The one caveat I would add to the first point is whoever we acquire may have to be a free agent (Hoffman, Toffoli, etc.) to help with signing our RFAs next year.

I think I'd rather keep him this year because I want Toews to have that cushion. I'm fine with getting less for him next year if that's the case when we have our cap crunch.

This year's defense:
Pelech-Pulock
Leddy-Boychuk
Toews-Mayfield
Hickey

Next year's defense:
Pelech-Pulock
Toews-Dobson
Aho-Boychuk
Hickey (or FA signing)

One thing to point out that may be misunderstood out there: Leddy is still a very good defenseman. He's going to become a victim of a cap crunch, but he's still an extremely valuable asset that can help any team. Great skater, good on both ends of the ice, excellent in zone entry. We're not looking to move him because he's bad. We're looking to move him because of the cap crunch and that Devon Toews can take his spot.

Yeah i understood they would only be looking to move him simply out of cap crunch.

Since this thread is about Leddy do you think Leddy and some picks or prospects for Drouin is a fair trade for both teams

Yeah def its a solid looking starter but I have to imagine montreal would want at least a 2nd and mid tier prospect maybe more to be honest but it would meet both teams needs so much.

Toews has already earned those minutes from Leddy and Aho has already earned a shot at an NHL spot (2 great years in the AHL, AHL All-Star last year and had a strong showing 2 seasons ago when called up the NHL).... Trading Leddy won't hurt the D, but can absolutely help out the Offense if he's traded for a Top 6 FW... at this point moving Leddy is a move the Isles have to make if they can get a Top 6 FW or a 1st round pick plus additional prospects/picks.

I'd even look into trading Hickey as well and using Boychuk as a rotating 7th D and tutor for Dobson (who, unless he bombs in training camp is going to make the team).

It's something I'd consider for sure, depends on what the organization thinks of Drouin. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but I can see him doing well with Nelson since Nelson is more of a goal-scoring center.

If Noah Dobson outperforms boychuk/mayfield in camp (which is likely) he’ll make the team out of camp - and if he has a similar impact as toews did when he came up last season, trotz will have to make the tough decision and sit one of boychuk/mayfield. Noah Dobson is not eligible to play in BPT because of CHL rules, and it would hurt his development if he’s ready and is sent back to juniors to play against inferior competition. Many scouts said that at times it was too easy for Dobson last season, he needs to be playing against tougher competition in order to develop and improve his game.
