You were pretty realistic until the Wings trade. They decline that quick.

AA trade doesn’t make sense since he would be giving a major raise next year so with all
The youngsters that will command a raise in the next few year, danault, domi and gallagher, petry all Need new contracts next season or the one after. We have ylonen coming on the right side as well as suzuki that could play right side or center. Armia is more likely to stay at good contract is versatile player

Tatar needing new deal same time as Danault , Gallagher ,Petry , Kotkanemi , Poehlng , Lehkonen and Armia .
AA would an RFA unlike Tatar and need a deal 1 year earlier when we only have Domi , Juulsen and Mete to worry about with 18m
if we knew we had AA we'd just pay Seattle to take Alzner giving us 22.5 m for AA , Domi ,Mete and juulsen .

Petry wont be returning , if he does then it means Weber's gonna be on the move as he'll be at 18 over 6 years and easier to move but longterm keeping him over Petry means better developed prospects as Weber takes pride in helping the Josi's , Ellis's , Ekholm's , Jones's ,ext that he's helped adjust to life at the NHL level just like he did with Mete here

Either way getting AA actually helps us in the end as it gives us an RFA looking for Tatar money rather then Tatar looking for a raise .
we get 4 years younger without losing any speed .

Maybe its because im not as high on AA, alzner will on is last year of deal so montreal would rather bought him out then pay seattle. Sunce
Tatar was in edmonton and we got klefbom we have no need of extending him. So that left domi, mete next season and petry danault gallagher kk to sign i think petry might get traded this year at the deadline. They could verg similar to muzzin deal. Keeping danault and gallagher( both on 4 year deal) danault is very versatile extremely underrated if he land on the 3 line he would be right in the good chair

we can re-sign AA because he's got a lot of holes in his game and he's an RFA
the most the arbitrators would award him would be Tatar level money which is about 800K over his current value thus far in his development .
54 points is nice but when you're playing Larkin 21 minutes and 51 seconds just 9 seconds short of leading all skaters outside goalies in icetime (almost unheard of )
AA wasnt even considered for relief at 2nd center with more minutes but instead they gave 4th line center Glendenning almost 16 minutes and Larkin almost 22

he's still a 30 goal scorer in the same way Byron's a 20 goal scorer , he better then any of the 3rd line players he faces
i dont think elevating him see's his goal scoring rise but instead see's it shrink and his assist level rise

being a 30 goal scorer on the 3rd line of a bottom feeding NHL team is alot like being the the tallest midget
sure you're almost on everyone else's level but just come up just short.

Larkin on the other hand played nearly 22 minutes and scored 32 goals vs top line center with 1600 faceoffs taken at 54%.
AA is worth comfortably right now 4.5m on a contender and 5m+ on a Detroit or another rebuilding non playoff team requiring them to give up their prime years and miss the playoffs . (andreas had the same goals as dylan signing the same time took 3m less because he's not a playmaking center so its unlike he exceed's 5m )

signing AA to a 3 year 4.5m deal walking him right into his UFA status at the end of the contract at 28 years old after MTL added some value to him and taught him how to play a 2 way game not just offense like Galchnyuk as incomplete players make inconsistent players especially among goal scorers .

we could always trade him when Caufield is ready in 2-3 years
making up more then we paid in the return while he buys us time (2nd RW wide open until Suzuki,Caufield or Ylonen emerge)

And that is why Wings are not trading AA for what you proposed. They are not at the beginning of a rebuild but in the middle. Trading him now only sets the rebuild back and with the new GM, newer stadium and the team missing th playoffs for 3 straight years, it is time to progress not regress.
