BUF
  1. Ehlers, Nikolaj
Détails additionnels:
I think WPG can afford to lose Ehlers to bolster their decimated defense, because I don't think Risto leaves for Roslovic/Pearrault, it just isn't a good enough return. If Ehlers leaves, it leaves a top 6 spot for Roslovic and Vesaleinen to compete for, which I think are both more than capable to fill.
WPG
  1. Asplund, Rasmus
  2. Ristolainen, Rasmus
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2021 (BUF)
Détails additionnels:
For this deal to happen for cap purposes, the Sabres retain $1,400,000 on Risto's deal, which I think is worth it to make this happen. Risto seamlessly becomes WPG's second pair RD who will either be paired with Niku or Beaulieu. It's a solid replacement for Myers/Trouba based on their more offensive playing styles, and only being a $4,000,000 cap hit after he's retained brings tremenous contract value. Asplund is a B+ prospect who can use one more year in the AHL, but projects as a stud 3rd line C/LW with a fantastic 2-way game. 2nd round pick mitigates the risk on WPG's side

Niku/Honka would be more of a 3rd pairing, right? There isn't anything Honka has done to prove he is a top 4 defenseman, and there is even less evidence that Dallas wants to trade him away

There's really nothing Ristolainen has done but prove he's not a top 4 defenseman.

What's with Sobotka?? Part of the trade?? Or does he magically disappear???

Wouldn’t have niku and honka together it would be a more lineup balance and can get him for pretty cheap rn.. also risto is overrated wouldn’t give up ehlers who is on a great contract for him..

If Sobotka disappeared would we get cap relief?

I think this is a weird trade for both teams. Wouldn't want to give up Asplund AND Risto for 1 guy. Love Asplund's potential. Winnipeg doesn't want to trade Ehlers either.

There has been rumors he'll get waived/not report. And you're heavily underrating Risto, I'm sure you haven't watched many Sabres games so it isn't really worth arguing

Thing is, we cannot protect both Asplund and Thompson for the expansion draft in a few years, especially if they both prove to be quality NHL players. I would be willing to move one of the two so take your pick

Fair point. I'll give Thompson instead tbh but WPG is definitely not doing that.

That's why I included Asplund. IMO the Sabres are overpaying in this trade, yet WPG still think Ehlers is worth WAY more than Risto. Like chill out, the dude has 0 goals in 21 playoff games lmao

You can’t just waive a player on Arm chair gm you have to pick a team

I believe we could waive him to try to send him down to rochester, nobody will pick him so he would clear. If he reports, we can save roughly a million of his cap hit- they dont give you full cap relief. If he refuses it voids his contract and i believe we are off the hook- the league may have to ok it like they had to with berglund. The bigger problem is it sounds like botterill wants kruger to try to get production from sobotka and girgensons (i wanna say they were mentioned by name but i dont have a quote). Thats frightening as it means they dont even plan on letting him ferment in the press box, they plan on marching him back out on the ice again.

I would add to ristolainen to get a good piece like ehlers- something like this is fine.
