In his income bracket, Alberta income tax would be 15%. His total tax would be 48% in Alberta. In the US it's 37%. It would cost Tyler Johnson UP TO 550K of his own money per year to play in Calgary, 2.75M in total. If we adjust this for residency on a 50/50 basis, it's 275k per season and 1.375M per season assuming he had no state/provincial tax on the road, which isn't realistic.
Also, what you gain in Canadian dollar conversion, you lose in cost of living. 30% more dollars, 30% more expensive to live.
Tyler Johnson is from Spokane Washington, and grew up playing in Coeur d'Alene. Over 7 hours south of Calgary. You are also assuming he wants anything to do with playing in a high pressure Canadian market.
Tyler Johnson played for Bill Peters for a single season as a 17 year old. Given how far he played down the lineup in his 17yo rookie WHL season, maybe we let Tyler say if he and Bill are close.
Tampa finished first
I'm a Flames fan, but it's not a realistic expectation.

There are so many things wrong in this statement.
1. TyJo is from 1 hour south of Calgary.
2 TyJo is close with Calgarys head coach.
3. Alberta has the lowest provincial tax in Canada (5%)
4. He would ve paid in USD in Canada essentially netting him 30% on home games (mind you this is true as long as the CAD is .76 to USD)
5. Calgary came 2nd in the league last year and will certainly mKe the playoffs again this year, high chance of leading the division too.
