I'd agree with that. He'll either sign on a deal that works with the Leafs cap structure, or he could end up sitting for the year.

Increasingly I don't see the OS as any kind of issue. if it's under 10.5M the leafs match and every GM knows that, so why do it? If it's over 10.5M the leafs take the four 1sts. But who the heck gives up 4 firsts for the privilege of paying Marner 10.5M plus? Especially if he wants that on a 5 yr term. I'd say no one does that deal.

Ferris is getting boxed in here, and I think the leafs are playing this negotiation well so far. Nothing but good things to say about Marner and only so much cap to go around now that his 20+ teammates are secured
