Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

Both players stink. Ryan is definitely better, but he is owed about 20 million and Backes is owed 5. Ryan has three years left and Backes only has two. Backes is also a pretty easy buyout for next season. Ottawa gets a good vet D with playoff experience, a bad contract that has a chance of going on LTIR or retiring early, and get out that Ryan contract. Taking on Moore might seen like it kind of evens the money out, but I don't think they would view Moore as a bad contract. He's a fine player, Grzelcyk just outplayed him. I'm not getting into lines, or other contracts, just wanted to see what people thought of a Ryan for Backes idea.

Disclaimer: Backes waives his no trade clause because he's told it's either Ottawa, and the NHL, or Providence, and long bus rides.

i would probably do 3 years of bobby ryan at 5.25, call me crazy see if they eat another 750k total and make it just a solid 5 even.

Why are you paying $5.25M for Bobby Ryan to sit in the press box? It doesn't solve the Backes situation. Ryan can still contribute to any team, whether its offensively or physically. I like the trade for him, but I'd slot him in on the third line. Thoughts?

I don't know if I would. I wouldn't want to lengthen their bad contract.

If they buy out Backes (now) they get a 400k relief this year and 2.4m next and a 667K penalty the next two. I think I would rather that than Ryan and 750K over next three. I also really don't like Ryan.

he can play. he's been in a pretty bad situation for a while. Still a half point per game player. Give him a center like Krejci and an energetic battery mate like Debrusk and maybe he gets back to form. Give him some net front powerplay time on PP1 and he might build some confidence. Save 3.5 million per year, and give up a 3rd round pick for that chance? sure.

Yeah, the logic is solid and he probably would be decent player on Krejci's wing, but I just want to see some of the kids play. I would much rather this scenario than trading a 1st or a good prospect to dump his contract.
