We only have 5 years to win the Cup. I could see us getting someone like Mo Jo to help us do that.

I wonder if the Canes wish they had 6.25m in Marleau cap space instead of a future first rounder?

Have you seem the seen the offer sheet details? 20m in signing bonuses first 2 years. For a team that usually loses $ and has a limited budget this is a problem.

Cap space is not the problem. They have 20m. It’s the 20m in bonuses the first 2 years and the 5 year term.

If by this post the Canes are want to spend 5.5m on a UFA, they only have 2.5m with three roster spots to fill. Then they will bonus carryover into next year. Not having Marleau would have add an additional 6.25m in cap. And Marleau did cost them 3m in actual cash.

Our owner is not going to lose our franchise player because of the signing bonuses. While that is a concern, I think he knows that we need to ride the high from last season and losing Aho isn't the way to do it.

As i said, if they match, they are done spending. No other UFAs.

For my scenario, I would have rather had the cap space, but realistically I feel like MoJo is going to get around 6 million from someone so him coming to Carolina won't happen.

No... you don't know this franchise. The canes made enough money in selling season tickets for next year to match that ALONE. You really need to do your research. It's not been matched yet because they want to stop Montreal from spending, they have to leave 300k in cap space because, even with the inflated cap ceiling, they'd be over if they let Aho go, which would result in a bigger penalty. They are going to match this, Waddell has said that in his press conference yesterday (NHLCanes on twitter if you wish to view it). As for the canes owner.... you seem to forget this guy is a MULTI MILLIONAIRE. 21 million for the guy he said wants to keep no matter the cost, is nothing. You really need to do more of your own research before you go commenting on things like this, because you still seem to view this as the team it was under Karmanos, which it isn't.

They increased season ticket sales by 4m during the playoff run. Cool your jets.

I fully expect them to match. They can’t afford not to.

I follow more than 1 team. Canes are my 2nd team. You should probably do some reading about him and open your eyes how things have been done since he took over. Just saying.

BTW how much did he lose on the AAF investment? I know, i know, two different things right? Except his bank account is only one thing to him, or anyone for that matter. It affects his decision making on how much he wants to invest of his own capital into the franchise. It’s public knowledge he did not want to go over 6m per on Aho. I think they match because they have no choice really. They don’t they lose the goodwill generated from the playoff run. But he’s not going to be happy about it. Their internal payroll cap is a lot lower than the cap ceiling.

Your point was that he wasn't going to match the offer because he is cheap but now you're saying that he will match but he won't be happy with it. Regardless of whether he is happy with it, he is going to spend the money on Aho. Because, as you said, he has no choice. So your point about me not knowing our owner because he won't sign our franchise player is thrown out, because you literally agreed he will sign him.

Trade him before then.... not hard. In 5 years, Svech Necas Suzuki and maybe more will be firing at the NHL level, you move him to make space. You get a good return for him.... it's not rocket science. All this has done is f*ucked MTL over because they can't get within 300k of the cap. It's quite a dumb move from Bergevin when he has so many more urgent needs... also remember Domi is an RFA next year, and Kotkaniemi the year after, and Carolina draft more fins than anyone else in the league (Thats a genuine stat btw, they make more than 25% of their picks out of Liiga). Carolina are still in the position of strength here. Don't forget that, one of these teams made the playoffs this year, and got to the 3rd round, the other missed and picked up Cale Caufield...

He thinks it's the same team this was under Karmanos, when in reality it's anything but. The fact of the matter is he has taken on more salary than he's given up over the course of his trades here. He is not cheaping out, he's just not spending mindlessly, and people are gonna say he wants to set an internal cap and whatever, we know what he's done. We know what our prospect pool looks like, we know why he isn't spending (Svech won't be cheap) We know this, let others speculate my dude

I really enjoy people underestimating us and thinking they know the team based off of the past.
It's a new era of Canes hockey and if people don't realize that, they're turning a blind eye and that's on them.

Very much so.... just a quick reminder... in his last 5 trades, he dumped De Haan because he was injured, he took on the 6.25 mil of Marleau, he took on 2.75 mil of Haula, he shed 100k or whatever with Reimer, but Reimer looks like he's going to play where Darling wasn't which is a good roster move. And the Nino trade... he took on 1.25 mil more, and Nino started to do dumb things....
