It seems like GMBM didn't value him as highly as we thought. The AAV was reachable for the Caps perhaps, but with it we don't sign Garnet Hathaway. I'd rather have a similar and more versatile Panik, along with an upgrade on the 4th line of Hathaway than simply Connolly alone. I'm happy with what GMBM did here.

Connolly’s shooting % was so high. It’s an unpopular take but connelly was extremely lucky and I doubt he’ll be able to repeat that
Yeah regression from Connolly seems easily possible. If so, we'll have Panik for cheaper, who also plays PP and PK and a better 2 way game. I'd be surprised if Panik and Connolly's point totals are much different after this year.
