Marner's Defence is wildly overrated. Seriously he isn't actually very good. The secret is that Hyman has been an absolute workhorse on that line both offensively and defensively. Not just Hyman but Tavares as well. Tavares 2 way game is highly under rated. Every time I here “we can’t trade another penalty killer” my next thought is TAVARES. He is by far one of our best penalty killers but doesn’t get utilized. Probably for good reason as you can’t play the guy 40 minutes a night... or can you??? Hmmm.

Marner is great defensively. But that is not the entire reason he is on the penalty kill, it’s the transition the other way. The same as kapanen. Kappanen is good defensively as well but it is 99% his backcheck.
