If you expect to get much more than that, I don't know what to tell yah.

I do that, i dont really like Vlad much but id do this deal, if you trade him for a second or third round pick there's no guarantee that the pick would play the amount of games Namestnikov would in one season

I would expect to get more than that; that's what good asset management entails. Don't throw players away for pennies on the goddamn dollar. Let him play in Europe for a season or two, the Oilers have his rights until he's 27. If he shows well and there's still a disconnect, get more value for him then than now. Holland has less than zero incentive to trade Puljujarvi this very second.

Honestly (and I called this months ago), I think there is a decent chance it ends up being Connor Brown for JP (more or less straight up). I am sure EDM will try to get more (as they used a 4th ovr on him), but I think you will ultimately be given 3 choices:

1) A trade like the one in this thread (cap dump rental)
2) A trade like my Brown proposal (Cap dump RFA)
3) Two 3rd round picks

Long term Brown likely offeres the best value (or another player form another team in that vein).

But you can control who that pick gets turned into to an extent, you control that players' rights for a minimum of two years, and god forbid you actually draft a player that's better than Namestnikov? I mean, this is a guy who hasn't played a full season of hockey since his first year of junior. I'll take my chances on a prospect that needs a change of scenery or a 2nd Round Pick+

If Edmonton trades JP for Brown straight-up, I'll personally gun down Holland. Lay off the homer sauce. I'd genuinely rather they let him walk in 5 years than lose another trade that badly.

Your team made him play on two broken hips and you ****ed up his most important development years. There will not be any reconciliation. If he goes to Europe, even if he shows well, that will drive down his value, not up because he is useless to you, and other teams will take advantage of that.

Thats assuming you could get a second, which is doubtful atm. Buts thats just me arguing, I agree with you but i also dont think that this trade is far off in value, i think oilers would lose in this one tho but we're doing that already when we ****ed up his development

Last I checked (and I'm confident that having followed the team I'm actually fully aware of the Puljujarvi situation and not just cherry-picking moments of his career), that it was a decision between JP and his agent to refuse to play in the AHL this season, or a trade demand would have been made sooner. It hasn't gone public, but what if similar demands were made in previous seasons? He'd get the odd, short stint in the AHL, finally gain some traction, then be immediately called up. Part of that is on previous regimes: if you're trying to salvage a player-management before it gets to where it is now AND you're a spineless manager that instantly caves to the requests of agents, these situations arise.

I wouldn't put it past both the Oilers and Puljujarvi's agent that he wasn't allowed to be shut down for the season. For some ignorant reason, this team thought it was a playoff contender and his agent wanted him showcased in order to facilitate a trade.

The assignment to Europe wouldn't be for the purpose of reconciliation (granted, still an option if he's in Jokerit and the OBC proves useful when esteemed GM Jari Kurri talks some sense into him), it's to increase his value. Will teams pay more for him now or after he's figured out how to produce again outside of the NHL?

Swapping a former #4 pick for a forward on an expiring deal with a career high of 36 points is a bad trade any way you slice it, and I'm fascinated that you can't reconcile that fact.

Yakupov played in over 200 games? Puljujarvi hasn't? Get back to be when you find a legitimate comparison. And holy sh*t when did his play change where he was drafted? He's always going to be a former 4th overall pick lmao you can't just say he's not.

Brown is just barely worth a 3rd. I'd lean more towards a 4th tbh.

Puljujarvi is ostensibly worthless to edmonton. He can still maybe turn his career around, but no GM is gonna call up Holland and treat Puljujarvi like he's a former 4th overall pick. Theyre gonna treat him like a guy with less than half as many points in his first 3 seasons than Nail Yakupov.

Also surprised nobody has said anything about the Will Nylander trade.
