Slim chance of Cole Caufield making it to #10 either Buffalo or Edmonton take him before that.

People really need to realize that van is not trading Horvat in a deal that involves Barrie. The stupidity needs to end. Also good god that Van trade is crap.

Any Barrie trade for a player of Horvat's caliber would be contingent on an extension, it would have to be. As for the trade being crap, yeah it's a little muddy, but a 60 point center for a 60 point defenseman? I truly don't see how you can think that it's so lopsided. Take out all the extras (Van 1st, Kaut, etc.) and that's pretty damn even if there's an extension in place.

Don't go thinking that Avs fans are rushing to just give Barrie away. He's one of the best offensive defenseman in the league, and without a doubt the most underrated.

Barrie is in his prime and Horvat hasn't reached that yet. Horvat is kind of like Bergeron 2.0. He's a core piece that you build around. You are not suppose to trade away players like that just because "there is an extension in place" for a guy that is one year from becoming a UFA. Try to actually understand the position that Vancouver is in right now. The nucks are still rebuilding and not ready to compete yet, so it is plain stupid to trade for a guy in his prime when your other younger players haven't reached that point yet. You cant just say "me avs fan, horvat fill our need, we trade barrie and make van add because barrie better and extension". You have to look at both sides and say to yourself "does this make sense for both parties". If Van trades Horvat, who is going to be that reliable two way 2C for them? Are they suppose to just shove Gaudette in that role and hope everything works out?

Well done man. Great explanation. VAN is rebuilding as well. Ignoring the Horvat and Barrie exchange, no way we're trading out 10th OA pick unless we're moving up or gaining more pieces and moving down. Horvat is a fan favourite, captain material player. Barrie is a great RHD im gonna admit that, but we don't need him right now. We just re-signed Edler, we have Q.Hughes, who knows if we might go after Myers, but i know we have Woo coming up. A Bergeron type 2-way player is important than a offensive RHD.

Not debating that at all, but you can't fault the guy or Avs fans at all for throwing out trade ideas when the mainstream media is saying that Benning is going after Barrie in a big way. As far as value goes, it's pretty damn even if you trade Barrie for Horvat, one for one. But yeah, I get that situation of not having a backup 2C or trading the guy that all 'Nucks fans see as the "heart and soul of the team." To be honest, I'm surprised that the Canucks were even mentioned when it came to a market for Barrie. That said, defensemen like Barrie don't just come along every day, and he's probably got a solid 6-7 years before he shows signs of slowing down.

Guess it depends what Benning sees in his current group. Barrie was seen as a piece of the core group less than a couple years ago. Things change pretty damn quickly in this league.
