Great signing!

A 2 way deal in the first year, and a 1 way deal on the second year.

Which means that he'll marinate in the minors for one more year (or less, depending on what they do with Anderson or Condon) and be ready to go as Nilsson back-up in year 2 in the NHL.

What does 2-or 1-way have to do with that?

2 way = 700k in the NHL vs 125k in the minors
1 way = 700k in the NHL vs 700k in the minors

Also, I think it affects waivers.

Decent goalie prospect for the Sens, still going be developing these next two years for sure. Looks fine to me.

Second year is One- way so he's definitely going to be back up next year. I imagine the Sens move Andy at the deadline and Hog comes up after that.

No, it has nothing to do with waivers. Money is also a non-issue with that cap hit.

Oh I see where you're trying to do. rolling eyes

Generally, you avoid paying players NHL-money to play in the AHL. The NHL isn't a charity and that's just bad business. Very few teams bury players on 1-way deals in the minors.

And 2, the first $1,075,000 on a contract in the minors does not count on the cap. In other words, none of the Hogberg 700k contract (if it was a one way) would count on the cap.

Yeah, poor guy. Must suck to be a young goalie on a team with one of the least goalie depth in the league.

He’s played well in Belleville, particularly during their long winning streak. With Anderson aging, he’s the most ready prospect in the system to take the reins. Getting him at NHL minimum for 2y is a (small) score. Good contract.
